Stenz, the lead band member was raised in Westwood prior to shifting from New York. By the time he was 15 years old he had become a known songwriter yet did not want to sing. He started his musical journey as being a reluctant vocalist who only sang as there would be no one else to lend vocals to his brilliant songwriting. He went to the prestigious School for Creative and Performing Arts for a while before he persuaded his parents that he only wanted to create music. By 1989, he created a band alongside Kevin Coleman the drummer and Jason Hounshell the bassist. Initially they would call themselves as "Bug". They recorded their debut album in 1991. By October 1992 the band began working along with James Sfamas and also his own label called Holographic Records. Their first self recorded album titled as Moth came out. This release of the band was greatly received with the college radio all over in the country ad also the indie press. After the release of the album, the Holographic Records took them in the studio once more to record their singles "Skinny Flesh" as well as "Deeper Green". They were released in 1993. As expected the single got an immense amount of critical acclaim which led the band to embark upon its first nationwide tour.
Soon after, The Moth were seen recording their second album that was known as Big League Fantasy Camp. This album of theirs came out in 1996. The band started to tour extensively. They completed recording their third album while they were in Cincinnati. Both their second and third albums were warmly received by their fans and critics alike. They took a break from Virgin Records, however, Bob Gavol and Stenz kept their creating music and ended up enlisting a fresh rhythm section to their music. The band focused on performing in live music concerts to experiment this new sound that they had introduced to their music. After having performed in various live shows they ultimately began to work on a new album and also create their own label that was known as Vital Records America.
In 2005, the band was given an award in the category of the Best Live Act by the esteemed Cincinnati Entertainment Awards. They were also seen being featured on MySpace. In November, 2005 they successfully recorded their album called Immune to Gravity that was been recorded in Altadena in California on the record label company called The Mouse House. This album came out on the 26th of March in 2006. The title track of this album, "Perfect" displays Inara George as the backup vocalist. There was another song called "Are You Really For Real?" that they had recorded while the recording of Immune To Gravity was taking place, however this song did not make it to being a part of the album. It has been reported that Stenz has been working on some fresh material since 2010 as they continue to perform in some of the most entertaining lie music shows.
