The dawn of B2K

Raz-B, Lil’ Fizz and J-Boog met each other in the year 1998 and instantly thought of forming the group. The band was managed by film director and record producer, Chris Stokes. A year later after the band was formed, Stokes was seen hosting the 18th birthday party of Marques Houston where he met Omarion who was also soon included in the group. The newly formed quartet decided to call themselves B2K to represent the fact that the band got together in the beginning of 2000.

In order to start their career, B2K made their cameo appearance in the music video of Ghetto Girls by Lil’ Bow Wow. The group also joined him on his, ‘Scream Tour I.’ The quartet then decided to record their debut song, Uh Huh which was released in 2001. The track got them global attention as it not only charted in the States but also entered the charts in different cities including, Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom. In February of 2002, the guys put out their second single, Gots ta Be which peaked at the thirteenth spot on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.

A month later, Boys of the New Millennium churned out their debut studio effort, ‘B2K.’ The record proved to be a major step forward towards stardom for the band as it was met with incredible commercial and critical success. The record sold more than five hundred thousand units in the States, earning gold plaque from the RIAA and peaked at the second and first spot on the Billboard 200 and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart respectively. Following the release of the record, the quartet went on to play a special concert for Nickelodeon and also featured in magazines, ‘Right On’ and ‘Word Up.’

Making huge waves

In July of 2002, B2K joined Bow Wow again for his, ‘Scream II Tour’ and trekked along with IMx and TG4. After ending the road trip, the guys began working on their debut holiday and album and released, ‘Santa Hooked Me Up’ on October 29, 2002. The record featured collaborative tracks with stars like Jhene Aiko and TG4 but it couldn’t garner them much attention and received mixed reviews from the critics.

However, this did not stop the guys from doing what they love to do which led to them putting out their first platinum studio effort, ‘Pandemonium!’ The album peaked at the tenth spot on the Billboard 200 and contained twenty one songs on the track-list out of which four of them were released as singles. Out of those singles, Bump, Bump, Bump turned out to be their first song to debut atop the Billboard Hot 100. It featured a guest verse from multi-time Grammy winner, Sean John Combs or also popularly known as P. Diddy. The track was also referenced in the film, ‘Guess Who’ which was released in 2005.

A year later, all the members of B2K starred in the Chris Stokes film, ‘You Got Served’ which opened at number one at the box office and grossed approximately $16 million during its first week of release. The guys also recorded the soundtrack album of the film which was released on December 23, 2003. The record was certified gold by the RIAA and received 3/5 stars from AllMusic. The band split after this album hit the markets.

The reunion

After B2K ended, each member of the band stated following their separate careers but in 2018, it was announced that the group is going to reunite. To celebrate their comeback, the quartet is now heading out on a tour and will be trekking through several cities across North America.
