Rovers emerged as a great music group in 1963 after George and Will Miller pooled their talents. Prior to their professional recording career, the band played at a variety of folk clubs in Canada and North America. Their music became known to the masses when they released their debut album The First of the Irish Rovers in 1966. It turned out to be a successful music venture and in 1967, Rovers came up with another popular record The Unicorn. The album produced several perennial hits like The Black Velvet Band and The Orange and the Green.
In 1971, the band started to perform in CBC-produced television show that was named after them. The show ran for seven years and introduced the band to the families as well as regular TV viewers. Throughout the 80s and 90s, their recording coincided with their live performances and television appearances. Popular albums from that era include Hardstuff, Years May Come, Years May Go and the Best Of The Irish Rovers. With little changes in the lineup, Rovers released a number of successful records in the coming years including Still Rovin’ After All These Years, Gracehill Fair and their most recent Drunken Sailor.
This year marks their 50th anniversary and the band has decided to say goodbye to touring. Playing their all-time favorites and megahits, the band will entertain their fans for one last time this year.
