The Growlers is a rock band from Dana Point, California that has been active in the garage rock and psychedelic rock scenes since 2006. They have been signed onto labels such as Burger Records, Palmist Records and Everloving Records. Their members today are vocalist Brooks Nielsen, lead guitarist Matt Taylor, bassist Anthony Braun Perry, drummer Scott Montoya and keyboardist and guitarist Kyle Straka. All are highly talented musicians, each having made a mark on American rock music. The Growlers were founded in 2006 and have since then released three albums. Their first album, Are You In or Out, was released in 2009. Their second album was released in 2010, titled Hot Tropics. Their latest album is 2013’s Hung at Heart. They have also played live with some of the best known rock bands and artists, including Dr. Dog, The Black Keys, Devendra Banhart, Night Beats and Julian Casablancas.
 
The Growlers are known for staging concerts that mix theatre and drama, such as using make-up, wigs, dresses and props, to create shows that are vibrant and highly entertaining. They have also performed outside the US, such as at Rock in Rio which was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. They have also played with Brazilian rock musician Marcelo Camelo.
 
The Growlers have also performed at festivals such as Coachella, FYF and the Beach Goth Party. They also organized an event at Santa Anna’s Observatory where many surf rock and psychedelic rock bands played, including The Abigails, Dante Vs Zombies, Methadone Kitty, Pangea, Summer Twins, Cosmonauts, Tijuana Panthers, Feeding People, Thee Rain Cats, The Rezonars, TRMRS, Audacity, Tommorows Tulips, and Sam Flax. This event was labeled the Beach Goth Party and the band is planning to organize this festival yearly.
