Here’s what you need to know about the quirky indie punk act The Front Bottoms
Based in Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey, The Front Bottoms is a quirky indie punk act that began playing music around 2007. Rising from obscurity, the group has been gathering quite a following over the years. A bit of knowledge about the band can come in handy in the context of their upcoming tour, so keep reading on.
The Front Bottoms came to light when vocalist and guitarist Brian Sella, and his childhood friend and drummer Matt Uychich began playing music together. They were soon joined by Matt’s brother Brian, also a vocalist and a keyboardist. Thus the original lineup was formed and they independently released two albums and an EP. The band spent the next few years playing locally around New Jersey and eventually set out on wider country tours.
First few albums
The talented group put out a self-released album I Hate My Friends in 2008 and the same year an EP was released. Their second self-released effort Grandma VS Pneumonia came out the following year. After a couple of similar efforts and relentless touring, The Front Bottoms finally caught a break and signed to the respected independent label Bar/None Records in 2011. Their eponymous debut album under the label was released soon after.
Talon of the Hawk
It wasn’t until their second studio album Talon of the Hawk was released in 2013 that the group’s efforts bore fruit and they gained any significant recognition. The album charted at number three on the “Top Heatseekers” chart and caught the attention of critics and music lovers alike.
Back on Top
The Front Bottoms further cemented their place in the industry with their latest album, Back on Top, which also marks their jump to a major label, Fueled By Ramen. The eleven-track album was released on September 18, 2015. Back on Top has also been the band’s biggest success to date on the Billboard charts ranking among the top forty on the overall charts and on number six on the “Top Modern Rock/Alternative Albums” chart. The album features hit singles like “Summer Shandy,” “Laugh ‘til I Cry” and “West Virginia.”
An ode to summer love, “Summer Shandy” highlights Sella’s rambling lyrical delivery as he sings about a romance he knows will never last. “Laugh ‘til I Cry” features lyrics sometimes insightful, sometimes funny and a fun video for the single has also been released.
