The first nomination for Grammy for the band was also its first win for ‘Approaching Pavonis Mons by Balloons’, which was declared the Best Rock Instrumental Performance for 2003. The band won another series of Grammy Awards in 2007. It won the Best Engineering Album, Non-Classical and Best Rock Instrumental Performance for At War with the Mystics and The Wizard Turns On, respectively. It got nominated twice for the Best Alternative Album and the Best Surround Sound System. The Flaming Lips also received the Best International Act (2007) nominations at the BRIT Awards.
 
Through 1986 till today, the band has produced 13 studio albums and has playfully used the neo-psychedelic, dream pop, and alternative rock music genres. The band gave out their first ever performance at Blue Note Lounge, Oklahoma City and soon after released their first song - The Flaming Lips. Their debut album hit the market in band quickly produced another set of albums under the same label: Oh My Gawd!!! (1987) and Telepathic Surgery (1989).
 
In a Priest Driven Ambulance (1990) was an experimental album for the band since the Coyne made an alteration to the style of his vocals, which he had already tried in a song in the previous album. 1992 market the beginning of another era for the brand, starting with being signed to a major label, Warner Bros. and producing first major label album by the name Hit to Death in the Future Head. The dedicated band produced another striking album just the next year, Transmissions from Satellite Hearts (1993). The band picked up sharp fan following at the release one of the songs by the name ‘She Don’t Use Jelly’. The song featured the band of three of the most popular TV series: The Late Show with David Letterman, Beverly Hills 90210, and Beavis and Butt-head. The success ladder continued with the band embarking on a promotional tour including participating in opening the show for various other bands.  
 
The Flaming Lips’ next album Clouds Taste Metallic was taken highly critically by music critics and the album did not succeed in attaining popularity as their previous album. The band took the critique positively and adopted a changed strategy. They came up with their next album after working for two years on it, Zaireeka (1997). The album turned out to a combination of melodious tunes and electrifying recorded numbers, reaching the market with something to every music listener. The Soft Bulletin proved to the phenomenal breakthrough for the band creating a hoopla in the market. The album overtook the traditional songs with soft tunes and scored a position at various top charts.
 
Following the success trend, The Flaming Lips released another bunch of super successful albums Yoshimi Battles in Pink Robots (2002), At War With the Mystics (2006), The Dark Side of the Moon and Embryonic (2009). The albums elevated the band status to another level and The Flaming Lips tripped rigorously.
