The Doobie Brothers: Ruling the '70s

After their formation in 1970, The Doobie Brothers signed with Warner Records and hit the studio to work on their debut studio album. A year later, 'The Doobie Brothers' was released to the public. The record did not achieve much success on the charts and failed to impress the critics as well. However, the group didn't let this stop them from making music and began to work on their next studio project with more dedication. This resulted in them releasing, 'Toulouse Street' which turned out to be their first effort to go platinum in the United States.

The Doobie Brothers kept rolling and rose to fame even more when they dropped two consecutive double platinum records, 'The Captain and Me' and 'What Are Once Vices Are Now Habits.' Released in 1973 and 1974 respectively, both the records performed well on the charts with the latter peaking at the fourth spot on the Billboard 200. The band then went on to conclude the decade by producing four more studio records out of which, 'Minute by Minute' became their highest-selling effort to date, going triple platinum in the States. In addition, it became their first and only record to top the Billboard 200.

On a Roll

Following the conclusion of the '70s, The Doobie Brothers released the first record of the new decade entitled, 'One Step Closer' which hit the markets in 1980. This effort turned out to be their third record to be certified platinum by the RIAA and climbed to the third spot on the Billboard 200. It was also composed of singles, Real Love, One Step Closer and Keep This Train A-Rollin. The group then broke up temporarily before they reunited and released their tenth studio effort, 'Cycles' which achieved gold status in the United States.

Not Slowing Down

The Doobie Brothers are still going strong and showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon. They released their most recent record and third of the new millennium entitled, 'Southbound' in 2014. It reached the seventh spot on the Top Country Albums chart. Moreover, the guys issued their latest live album, 'Live from the Beacon Theatre' on June 28, 2019.

Michael McDonald

Michael McDonald left The Doobie Brothers in 1982 and started to focus on his music. He released his first solo album, 'If That's What It Takes' which recorded gold level sales in the U.S. and peaked at the sixth spot on the Billboard 200. It also received praise from Rolling Stone and AllMusic. McDonald then went on to rock the world by releasing efforts like, 'Motown,' 'Motown Two' and 'Through the Many Winters, A Christmas Album.' The first record from the list became his first platinum selling effort while the other two albums were certified gold by the RIAA.

On September 15, 2017, Michael McDonald released his most recent studio effort, 'Wide Open.' This effort was influenced by blue-eyed soul sound and was packed with twelve well-crafted songs including Honest Emotion and Dark Side.
