The Cure is a West Sussex-based alternative/gothic rock band formed in 1976. The foundations of this ensemble were laid in 1973 when Robert Smith, Laurence Tolhurst, Michael Dempsey, Alan Hill and Marc Ceccagno (students at the Notre Dame Middle School) got together to form a group. Initially named ‘the Obelisk,’ it wasn’t until 1979 that the rock band scored its big break, signing with Fiction Records. The Cure’s first album ‘Three Imaginary Boys’ made its way to charts across the UK, France and New Zealand.
