Members Dave, Rob and Scott initially began playing as ‘New Boots and Panties’ during the early eighties. In 1986, the band welcomed a new member Greg Joseph and the group was renamed as The Clarks. The four piece rock group started playing gigs at bars, local festivals and fraternity parties. They covered songs by renowned artists like The Long Ryders, English Beat, The Del Fuego, Joe Jackson and U2. They also wrote an original song that managed to win the second place at a local music competition. The band’s debut album ‘I’ll Tell You What Man…’ was released in 1988 to favorable reviews. Songs like ‘Help Me Out’ and ‘Hear It From You’ gained significant spins on radio throughout Pennsylvania and placed The Clarks under the limelight. The band’s following 1991 album ‘The Clarks’, also produced another gem in the form of ‘Penny on the Floor’ that was an instant hit with fans, allowing the band to gain a cult following throughout the Western Pennsylvania. The band’s subsequent albums ‘Someday Maybe’ and ‘Love Gone Sour, Suspicion and Bad Debt’ also produced hugely popular hits like ‘Mercury’ and ‘Cigarette’, which were immortalized throughout Pittsburgh and continue to receive frequent air play even today.
The band’s greatest success came with the release of their long awaited 2000 album ‘Let it Go’. Scoring a full five star rating by Rolling Stone Magazine, ‘Let It Go’ outsold several major national releases in the Pittsburgh region. Songs like ‘Snowman’, ‘Born Too Late’ and ‘Better Off Without You’ were the region’s biggest hits of the year. The critically acclaimed album became one of the most popular rock releases in Pennsylvania. The title track form the album was featured in The Anna Nicole Show as well as the 2001 film Summer Catch. Most critics believed that the album could have been one of the national best sellers of that year if it had been released by a major recording label. After ‘Let It Go’, The Clarks continued to enjoy major success in the US and released three more studio albums including ‘Restless Days’, ‘Fast Moving Cars’ and ‘Another Happy Ending’.
