Terrance Simien is undoubtedly one of the most soulful and energetic Zydeco music performers. He is a talented vocalist and the fieriest accordionists Zydeco has ever seen. Simien is a very special artist as he has gelled pop-oriented music to traditional Zydeco. He has successfully infused other sounds from genres like gospel R&B, reggae and funk. Terrance Simien tickets offer you to join him on a show of his live side.
Growing up in Eunice, Simien heard Zydeco for the first time on local dances. As a child he kept absorbing all he saw and heard. It was in the eighties when he actually began taking interest in music. The popularity of this genre rose and pushed Simien to learn the accordion and also try his hands on songwriting. He collaborated on this with his brother and loved it to the extent that he formed his very own band. His interest turned into a passion in a few years he became a famous act of Zydeco clubs in LA.
The artist got his big breakthrough to mainstream music in 1984. It was the he New Orleans World's Fair where his performance impressed Paul Simon, who pursued him to cover Clifton Chenier’s song You Used to Call Me. Next he was working on the soundtrack of Denis Quaid’s flick The Big Easy. Mallet Playboys was Simien’s band, together they recorded his debut full-length album Zydeco on the Bayou (1990). Three years later There's Room for Us All and then after a break of six years he reemerged with Positively Beadhead.
All three studio releases by Terrance Simien showed that the artist had versatile gifted vocals. He had a very strong presence on stage and kept audiences engaged every time he performed. His innovation was evident in all of his recorded efforts; this stance made him the most loved artist in American roots music.
Terrance evolved from a musician to a film scorer and became an educator. He conducted accordion, piano and trumpet sessions for aspiring musicians. This experience became a very rewarding one, so Simien decided to carry it on. Creole for Kidz & The History of Zydeco was an ingenious performing arts program started by Simien. It aimed to give informational performances for parents and teachers of students from grade K-12. Creole for Kidz has been running successfully for more than a decade now has reached out to more than five hundred thousand students and their families across twenty states. The program crossed international boundaries and is also educating in Mali, Australia, Brazil, Paraguay, Dominican Republic and Canada.
In 2001 the artist found another intrusting dimension, he started Tribute Sessions. These were narratives by Simien that included covers of music tracks of artists and acts that he wanted to pay tribute to. This way he introduced and shared some of his most profound influences on his music. For the next five years the Terrance kept exploring other music avenues. He came back in 2006 with album Across the Parish Line. The album was a shift from his all time favorite traditionalist approach. It was more about fusion and mix of rhythm from genres like pop, R&B and Americana.
Simien was signed by Aim Records for Across the Parish Line, the success of which also shelled the release of Live! Worldwide in 2007. The year 2008 was the most remarkable in the life and career of Terrance Simien. Earlier this year he was nominated for his first Grammy. More importantly, this year earned a separate category for Zydeco in the Grammies. This was a big time aim for the artist which when finally materialized won him his first Grammy Award. He along with his band got the very first Grammy Award in the new found category of Best Zydeco or Cajun Music Album for Live! Worldwide.
In this music career Simien has toured along with its band locally is extensively. Internationally they have performed in forty counties. They have showcased over seven thousand live performances. They are loved for their energetic shows loaded with hits from their Simien’s solo and collaborative recordings. The artist unlike any other Zydeco artist has collaborated with mainstream artists and bands such as Dr. John, Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder, Marcia Ball and Robert Palmer.
