TAO, the art of the drum, is a new form of creative and innovative entertainment that has created a buzz all around the world. Originally formed in 1993 in Aichi Japan, TAO shifted to Oita in 1995 to gain opportunity for a better ambiance and location in order to generate fresh ideas. Three rehearsal halls allow performers to create unique music under perfect setting and conditions. The production initially developed ground in southern Kyushu area and performed in only Kyushu region. After their goal of a million ticket sales was achieved, TAO started to develop and conceive the idea of expanding their horizon. The creators believed that they needed a strong foundation and base before actually opening up their performances to the world. This mind-set allowed TAO to become a top-notch global entertainment production resulting in millions of fans. TAO took the task to transform the old image of Japanese drum playing into a unique and modern form of entertainment by mixing it with diverse elements and remodeling the whole performance and tradition. With successful worldwide performances, TAO has managed to expand their shows and this year the production is planning to play seventy shows. The success of the show has allowed many talented composers and designers to join the group and widen the scope of possibilities for the production. Already featured in front of fifteen million people, the show aims to expand further at the international platform. The 2004 and 2005 Edinburgh Festival performance shook the biggest art festival of the world, where the event managed to attain the highest ticket sales amongst two thousand other group performances. That performance immediately brought the spotlight on TAO, and allowed the production to gain global exposure and promotions. Since then the production has toured all around the world including destinations such as Switzerland, Germany, Taipei, Australia as well as US. The sharp precision and perfect accuracy of the performers is not a fling but comes through an immensely tough training and years of practice. The performers go through rigorous period of training before they perform live. Initially the regime and training was so tough that almost four hundred trainees quit the program over a period of ten years. However, the founder “Ikuo Fujitaka,” changed the training session that decreased the drop out ratio.
