Tamia was born in Ontario and began to learn singing at a very young age. She started off performing in churches. Her mother was the one who introduced Tamia to music when she was young and that is what sowed the seeds for her to become the start she is today. She began to sing at different events aged only six.
Tamia made her way to the studio and started to work on her first album in the year 1995. The first song of the album "You Put a Move on My Heart" came out at the back end of 1995. The track did fairly well on the commercial front and made it to the Top 40 that went as high as the number twelve spot.
"Slow Jams" another song from the album went as high as nineteenth on the charts. The album itself hit the music stores on 14th April, 1998 in her native Canada. Its debut in the UK came on 11th May and was released a day later in other parts of North America. "Tamia," the album turned out to be a success and was certified gold for its sales in the United States.
That debut was good enough to push Tamia under the limelight. She went on tours and started to perform at various events. Those concerts took her popularity further than ever before. She then hit the studios once again and released "A Nu Day," her second album. It turned out to be an even bigger hit than its predecessor. A Nu Day went to the eighth spot on the US Top R&B albums by Billboard. It received a lot of applause from critics as well on its way to be certified gold.
This was the time when Tamia tickets began to sell in thousands everywhere she went to perform. Her star was on the rise and she made it count big time. Riding on a wave of ultimate high she then released her next album titled "More" on 6th April, 2004. The recording didn’t take too long to make its mark and went on exceed fifty eight thousand in sales in the first week alone. The album went on to capture second spot on R&B charts. It had critics raving and turned out to be Tamia’s third successive gold album. "Between Friends" her fourth album made its debut in the U.S. on 14th November, 2006. It didn’t received the kind of response the three albums that came before it got but it still didn’t do too badly.
"Beautiful Surprise" was released on 28th August, 2012. The album went to the top of iTunes charts in just two days after it came out. Beautiful Surprise went on to sell over ninety two thousand copies in just a couple of months after being released. It also won a Grammy nomination in the category of "Best R&B Album."
Tamia has been one of the leading ladies of music for two decades now. She has showed the world she has what it takes to be a star.
