Hailing from Baton Rouge Louisiana, Benoit developed a deep interest in guitar in his teen years. He got a chance to whet his music abilities when he played at the music club and art center known as the Blue Box. Many renowned musicians such as Raful Neal, Tabby Thomas and Henry Gray used to play at the club, so Benoit learned a lot in the company of these talented performers. With the guidelines from these blues masters, Benoit chose his music path and set on a journey that continues till today.
Benoit’s musicianship reached a professional level when he formed a trio in 1987 and started to perform at different local concerts and music guilds. Playing at these venues earned him a considerable following and served as a gateway to his impending fame. Signing a deal with Justice Records, Benoit released his debut album Nice and Warm in 1992. The record received positive reviews from the music critics who compared Benoit’s style with legendary blues guitarists, Albert Collins, Jimi Hendrix and Albert King.
Humble by nature and devoted to traditional blues, Benoit maintained his focus and released his second record What I Live For in 1994. The album became popular and songs like Cherry Tree Blues, Time and Time Again and the title track got a warm reception from the fans. Standing on the Bank followed after that and expanded his music repertoire.

In the same year, Benoit contributed his talents in the collaborative album Homesick for the Road that also featured young guitarists and musicians Debie Davies and Kenny Neal. The album was launched under the Telarc Record label which marked the initiation of a professional relationship between the record label and Benoit. The relationship proved to be fruitful when the album Wetlands was released in 2002. Featuring melodic songs such as Fast and Free and When a Cajun Man Gets the Blues, the album became a hit.
Whiskey Store came out in the same year and combined artistic abilities of Jimmy Thackery, Double Trouble and Charlie Musslewhite. Thackery and Benoit hit the road and promoted their album by a number of live concerts throughout the country. Later in 2004, these performances were compiled in the album Whiskey Store Live.
