Maze featuring Frankie Beverly is one of those groups that have served enormously to the Soul music. The roots of the group can be traced all the way back to 1970 when the group initially started off as a project by the name of The Butlers which was later changed to Raw Soul. As Raw Soul, the group started recording new material and released a few singles that didn’t garner much attention, hence the group then relocated to San Francisco Bay Area in 1971. The group got its first break when they got a chance to open for Marvin Gaye during his tour, soon after the group started to get some mainstream attention. It was Gaye who suggested that the name of the group should be changed to Maze. The group acquired a fair share of fan base soon after the release of their self titled debut album, which was released on Capitol Records. This turned out to be group’s first Gold status album, spawning hits like While I’m Alone, Lady of Magic and Happy Feelin’s. From that point onwards, the group has been enjoying massive following all across the globe and they keep on touring from time to time as well.
Patti LaBelle is also a renowned and a big name of the American music industry. The Grammy winning singer/songwriter has been in the music industry for more than five decades now and during the period she has amassed a number of hit singles and albums. LaBelle initially made name for herself during her time with the group Patti LaBelle and the Bluebelles. After being the lead vocalist for the group for sixteen years, LaBelle embarked on a solo career after the group folded back in 1977. Over her long lustrous musical career, LaBelle has released a number of hit singles including You Are My Friend, If Only You Knew, New Attitude, and On My Own. Throughout her career, she has also been nominated and awarded on a number of occasions.
Created back in 1963, The O’Jays are also a well reputed and renowned R&B vocal group that emerged out of the American music industry. Over their more than five-decade long history, the group has release numerous singles to positive reception and fan’s appraisal. Lonely Drifter turned out to be the breakthrough hit for the group and since then they’ve been an influential group for the coming acts of their genre. For their outstanding work in the field of music, the group has also been honored with an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Vocal Group Hall of Fame.
Kenny ‘Babyface’ Edmonds is also another one of the influential figures of the R&B music. Babyface stepped into the music industry back in 1975 when he played along with a number of groups. Edmonds started to enjoy massive mainstream popularity when he started producing and penning songs for acts like Sheena Easton, Paula Abdul, Karyn White and Bobby Brown. Later on, Edmonds also co founded LaFace Records and produced for numerous famous acts of our time including Usher, and TLC.
With all of these greats of the R&B music scene joining forces for Summer Music Festival, it surely is a must see for any fan of the genre. So hurry up, and get your Summer Music Festival tickets now.
