Steven Curtis Chapman is a Kentucky native who was born in 1962. Music was always in his blood as his father was a guitar teacher who taught his son to play the instrument when he was just seven. After completing high school, Chapman got enrolled in Georgetown College and then later moved to the Anderson College. Due to his interest in music, Steven decided to make his way to Nashville so he could live his dream.
Steven Curtis Chapman went to the Belmont University for a short period of time and started working a music show at Opryland USA. He was also practicing his songwriting skills at that point in time. He soon penned down a song, Built to Last in the 1980s which was performed and recorded by the Imperials. Due to the track’s popularity he caught the eye of Sparrow Records who signed him as a songwriter. Many notable names like Glen Campbell, Sandi Patty, Billy Dean, Roger Whittaker and Cathedral Quartet among others worked with him.

Steven Curtis Chapman made his debut as a recording artist by coming out with his first album, ‘First Hand’ in 1988. The record featured the single, Weak Days which charted at the second spot on the Contemporary Christian Music. A year later, Steven returned with his second and third records, ‘Real Life Conversation’ and ‘More to This Life’ which reached the nineteenth and the second position on the Top Christian Albums chart respectively.
‘Real Life Conversations’ was a critical hit as it received four and a half stars out of five by AllMusic. The record featured the hit single, His Eyes which earned him the “Contemporary Recorded Song of the Year Award” in 1989. It also got him the GMA Award for the ‘Best Songwriter of the Year.’

Since then, Steven has come out with eighteen studio albums more out of which nine charted at the first spot on the Top Christian Albums chart. Two of those albums, ‘Heaven in the Real World’ and ‘Speechless’ went platinum in the United States and received critical and commercial success.
‘Heaven in the Real World’ earned him a Gospel Music Association Award for the ‘Best Pop/Contemporary Song of the Year; in 1995 while the record got him a GMA Dove Award for, the ‘Pop/Contemporary Album of the Year.’ He also received a Grammy Award nomination for the album.
His record, ‘Speechless’ dominated the charts and received a Grammy Award for the ‘Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album’ in 2000. It also brought his way a couple of Dove Awards. The album is considered his best work to date and is recognized as one of the best Christian albums of all time. It produced multiple chart topping singles including, The Change, Fingerprints of God and The Invitation among others.
