The multiple Tony Award winning, Steppenwolf Theatre Company is now hitting your town for a fabulous performance. If you’re a fan of theatre then Steppenwolf tickets will mark your entry into one of the best shows you have ever seen. The idea of Steppenwolf Theatre Company came to the founding members, Gary Sinise, Jeff Perry and Terry Kinney almost like a revelation in the basement of a church in Highland Park. The company originated in mid-1970s in Chicago and has ever since enchanted the audience everywhere it performed. With more than 43 performers, the company has managed to change the landscape of acting making it the nation’s leading ensemble theater.
The company works as a not-for-profit organization and depends largely on the support of the community for the performance of approximately 16 plays and 700 performances annually. The theatre has even introduced its own educational programs which attract thousands of multi-generational spectators both nationally and internationally. With thousands of fans worldwide, Steppenwolf Tours tickets are always the topic of discussion amongst Broadway lovers.
Steppenwolf Theatre Company’s main mission is to bring together an audience from diverse backgrounds for an exchange of ideas and to contemplate over cultural diversity. It does this by bringing together provocative productions and by developing new audiences, artists and plays for the betterment of American theatre. Their mission of bringing together a culturally diverse audience for an exchange of ideas is also accomplished through various events that they hold which include, "Gala", "Women in the Arts", "The Scene", "Red or White Ball" and "Explore". The annual programs held by the company include, "Steppenwolf for Young Adults", "Garage Rep", "The five-play subscription series", "Next Up" and "First Look Repertory of New York". All these events aid in creating an environment where people from diverse communities can mutually talk about their different experiences.
The first shows that the company performed include Tennessee William’s, "The Glass Menagerie" and Tom Stoppard's, "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead" both of which became massive hits in Chicago. The company travelled to New York in 1982 where it performed the hit drama "Sam Shepard's True West", featuring John Malkovich and Sinise. This performance triggered countless other performances from them in New York. Steppenwolf Theatre then made its debut in Los Angeles in 1994 with the play, "Picasso" produced by Steve Martin. In 1996, after massive success in both Chicago and New York, the company made its first international debut in London with Lyle Kessler's "Orphans" which was directed by Gary Sinise.
Steppenwolf has produced numerous dramas and earned a lot of critical acclaim over the years. Perhaps one of the best dramas shown by the company is Tracy Letts’ "August: Osage County" which was hailed by the New York Times as "the most exciting new American play Broadway has seen in years". The play, directed by Ana D. Shapiro included seven members from the ensemble and was ranked number one in Time’s "Top Ten Theatre Performances of 2007" and bagged 5 "Tony Awards" including Best Director, Best Featured Actress, Best Play, Best Leading Actress and Best Scenic Design.
Most recently the company has been in the limelight for Amy Herzog’s outstanding drama "Belleville". The play directed by Anne Kauffman, includes two of the most talented members of the ensemble, Alana Arenas and Kate Arrington. The drama has an extremely captivating plot featuring Zack and Abby who live a very hip life in the area of Belleville, Paris. An isolate event in their apartment; however, manifests the weak foundations of their ‘apparently’ idyllic life and leads to consequences for both of them. The drama hailed as a "nail-biting psychological thriller" by the New York Times, is likely to be incredible in every sense of the word.
From breathtaking and powerful productions such as "Balm in Gilead" and "Grapes of Wrath" to "August" the company has certainly made its mark in theater in the last 35 years and continues to do so. If you want to witness the magic that the actors create on stage live for yourself, don’t forget to get your Steppenwolf tickets for a night you will never forget. Be there!
