Steely Dan’s Early Years

Steely Dan is a New York-based band formed in 1972. The jazz rock band was founded by musicians Donald Fagen and Walter Becker who became acquainted in 1968 when Fagen heard Becker performing in a café in New York. After completing their studies, the aspiring performers relocated to Brooklyn and recorded a few demos in 1971. They started performing gigs but to their dismay had little success. Their luck changed when they were approached by an ABC Records’ associate, Gary Katz. With this, Steely Dan released its debut full-length album in the same year. Named ‘Can’t Buy a Thrill’ the platinum certified album reached 4th place in Canada and 17th place in the US.

The Dan Who Knew Too Much Tour 2016

Before breaking up in 1981, Steely Dan released 7 studio albums, its most successful release being 1977’s ‘Aja’ that was certified 2x platinum in the US and Canada and silver in the UK. It reached top 3 in the US, Canada and New Zealand. After reuniting in 1993, Steely Dan came forth with an album in 2000 after nearly twenty years. Named ‘Two against Nature’ the album featured hits ‘Cousin Dupree’ and ‘Janie Runaway.’ It won Steely Dan 4 Grammys including the award for Album of the Year. Steely Dan’s most recent album came forth in 2003 named ‘Everything Must Go’ that reached 9th place on the Billboard 200. To watch the band perform, get Steely Dan Morrison tickets.
