The electro-pop singer, songwriter, grew up singing in the Drakensberg Boys’ Choir, which led him on tours and performances across Japan, Europe and Australia. Raised in South Africa, he got his start as a jingle writer for The Lodge, a music production company, until he began pursuing his own career. After he left the choir, he attended music school in England before relocating to New York City.
St. Lucia is comparatively new in the field of music, and so far has only released two albums. Primary music influences
Grobler grew up listening to the likes of Michael Jackson, Phil Collins and Boyz II Men. His main musical influences besides Phil Collins include Fleetwood Mac, Paul Simon, Radiohead and Mew. In an interview for the Billboard, Grobler has cited Fleetwood Mac’s album, “Tango in The Night”, Radiohead’s “OK Computer” and Paul Simon’s “Graceland” as the main influences. His music also shows clear signs of influence drawn from the 80’s music, especially of Lionel Richie and Whitney Houston.
St. Lucia’s live performances
St. Lucia has performed alongside notable musicians at many sold-out live performances. In 2013, he opened for Two Door Cinema Club. His live performances have also featured fellow musicians such as Ross Clark, Patricia Beranek, Nick Brown and Nicky Paul. Grobler has also tried his hand at remixing for the likes of Foster the People, Passion Pit and Charli XCX. St. Lucia was included in the lineup for Lollapalooza 2013, where many enjoyed his energetic performances.
