Squamish Valley Music Festival is a two day music gathering that is perhaps one of the most diverse music festivals in Canada. It is always held in the scenic town of Squamish in British Columbia. Squamish Valley is located on the Seas to Sky Highway near the famous Mount Garibaldi. The town has a population of around 20,000 residents. Throughout summer Squamish enjoys a moderate climate that is ideal for trekking, fishing and camping. The winters can be extremely cold with a lot of snowfall. Squamish Valley Music Festival is organized by the famous Canadian music companies namely Live Nation Canada and LIVE Management Group. The overall attendance at the event has been increasing and this has benefited the local businesses a lot. Recently these two music companies have not only increased the capacity for more attendees, they have also signed a ten year extension contract for the festival.
Currently Squamish Valley Music Festival is the largest contemporary music festival in Pacific Northwest. The tradition of this festival started in 2010 with a few main bands like hardcore punk group Bad Religion, folk one man band The Tallest Man On Earth, Canadian alternative group Tokyo Police Club, indie rock band from Vancouver Said the Whale, famous Canadian rock singer/lyricist Mathew Good, reggae group from California The Dirty Heads and indie folk rock band from Oregon The Decembrists’. Around 13000 music lovers attended this festival in 2 days. In 2011 the lineup of bands included seasoned groups like Said the Whale, Black Mountain, The Dudes, Sweet Thing and Hey Ocean. Two headlining bands this year were alternative rock group from California named Weezer and Canadian new wave and post punk group Metric. The attendance was higher than last year with around 16000 music lovers attending the festival.
In 2012 the festival format was changed and four different stages were set namely Meadow, Garibaldi, Woodshed and Stawamus. The lineup was huge with a number of bands ad artists from Canada as well as the US namely Rich Hope, Good for Grapes, The Sheepdogs, Young Pacific, The Airborne Toxic Event, The Rural Alberta Advantage, Current Swell. This time there was one headlining band and that was the famous folk and indie rock music band from Ontario called The Tragically Hip. This year 22700 fans attended the event. In 2013 the final stage allocation has not been done yet but the bands that have confirmed their appearance at the Squamish Valley Music Festival are A Tribe Called Red, Queen of the Stone Age, Band of Horses, Vampire Weekend, Young the Giant, Fitz and the Tantrums, Dustin Bentall and the Smokes The Funk Hunters, The Heavy, Pretty Lights, Matt Mays, The Matinee and Gang Signs. Like in the past this year the overall fan attendance is expected to increase even more.
