The captain has brought up his children like soldiers but Maria does not like this and so begins to reach out to the children through music. She starts teaching them how to sing and play music. Thus begins the story of Maria and the seven von Trapp children in a unique setting at one of the worst times the world has seen.

It is a story about a family, about children and about how to people meet each other, fall in love and then eventually marry.
