The Son Volt concert is worth every dime because Jay Farrar plays several country tunes in his stunningly glorious voice. Farrar is no less than a true poet because he writes substantial lyrics that are plaintive yet prophetic. The band’s musical style spans over a wide range of genres. It seems to play almost everything from the quiet country ballads to the rock and roll beats, you name it and they play it.
Some of the famous albums of the Son Volt band include Trace, Straightaways, Wide Swing Tremolo, A Retrospective: 1995-2000, Okemah and the Melody of Riot, The Search, American Central Dust and Honky Tonk. Trace is the debut album of the band that was released in 1995. The album peaked at number 166 on the Billboard 200 chart and also opened among the top ten in the Rolling Stone's list. In general, the album has been received quite enthusiastically by the fans and music critics. Some of the fan-favorite singles of the album include Windfall, Live Free, Tear Stained Eye, Drown, Catching On and many more. After its release, the song, Drown became a radio hit and peaked at number ten on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and number twenty five on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart. According to Allmusic, the band has pushed the horizons of alternative country and rock music with the release of its first album.
Founded in 1994, Son Volt is a Missouri based alternative country band that was formed by Jay Farrar after the inspirational alt-country group, Uncle Tupelo disbanded. During the last Uncle Tupelo tour, Farrar met Jim Boquist and Dave Boquist and formed the Son Volt band together with the former Uncle Tupelo drummer, Mike Heidorn. The band kept on practicing and recording in the Minneapolis area in 1994 and performed its first concert in June 1995. A few band members were housed in the Minneapolis area while the others were rooted in the St. Louis area and hence, the band headlined its performances in both cities during its infancy years. Dave Boquist and Jim Boquist are no longer with the band and have been replaced with new musicians. The incredible band is now made up of five members including Jay Farrar, Dave Bryson, Andrew Duplantis, James Walbourne and Mark Spencer.
The vocals and lyrics of Jay Farrar are examples of pure talent that one would rarely find on earth. While the whole concert night is one-of-a-kind experience in itself, the house really lightens up when the band begins to play some of its earlier songs with more of a rock edge.
People who have attended the Son Volt concert for the first time have not returned disappointed because the musicians leave no stone unturned to deliver an intoxicating performance to the audience. The acoustics and lighting effects are just spot on to make up for a spectacular concert evening. If you are also an avid country music fan, then Son Volt tickets have been rightly made for you.
