More About Smashing Pumpkins
One of the most popular and talented bands of the 90s, Smashing Pumpkins have had their share of ups and downs. Their eclectic musical style kept them buzzing but at the same time it was the frequent breakups and parting members that also kept them in the news. Originated by Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlain, James Iha and bassist D’arcy Wretzky also formed the initial lineup. With their debut album “Gish” releasing in 1991, Smashing Pumpkins instantly established themselves as versatile artists. Multilayered compositions and complex arrangements placed them on the map and in no time they took rock music by storm.
Their second album “Siamese Dream” added to mainstream appeal and featured the hits Today, heavy rock number Cherub Rock and Disarm that earned a lot of praise for its acoustic melody. 1995’s “Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness” had their biggest hit track 1979 that earned them two Grammy nominations. Their latest album “Shiny and Oh So Bright, Vol. 1 / LP: No Past. No Future. No Sun” hit the shelves in 2018 and features reunion with Jimmy Chamberlain who parted ways in 2009.
About Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds
Following his blowout with Oasis, particularly with his brother Liam, Noel Gallagher decided to go solo. In 2010 he formed Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds along with six other members. The melodic Brit pop band found popularity in no time and its 2011 self-titled album peaked at the music charts. “Chasing Yesterday” followed in 2014 and featured the hit tracks In the Heat of the Moment, Lock All the Doors and Ballad of the Mighty I. 2017’s “Who Built the Moon?” is their latest album to hit the shelves, reaching number three on the Billboard Rock Albums.
Fans with Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds tickets can look forward to a performance that’ll resemble Oasis’s cracking energy. Laced with psychedelic influences and zoned out grooves, their songs make for some thrilling live renditions. Besides belting out their own hit tracks, they will also perform songs from Oasis’s repertoire.
AFI will also bring the house down as the supporting act, presenting a fusion of gothic rock, emo, post-hardcore and alt-rock. Three superstars under one roof, what else can any rock fan ask for!
Smashing Pumpkins – Redefining Music
Founded in 1988 in Chicago, the Smashing Pumpkins are known for a diverse guitar-heavy sound that sets them apart from other alt-rock contemporaries. Their music is genre-bending with elements of heavy metal, progressive rock and electronica being prominent.
After a number of changes in the band members, the current lineup comprises of founder and lead vocalist Billy Corgan, guitarist Jeff Schroeder while Jimmy Chamberlin is seen exhibiting his talent on the drums.
With cathartic lyrics, the band’s image is described as anguished and having influences from nightmares. This not only gives depth to their music but also adds a dark tone to it that the fans absolutely love.
The group achieved mainstream success after the release of their second album “Siamese Dream” in 1993. Turning out to be a big hit, the album was supported by Smashing Pumpkins with an extensive tour. This helped in building their fan base and success followed with the album “Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness” that debuted atop the Billboard 200.
Soon after, a hiatus followed. The fans really wanted to see their favorite band back on stage and produce some mind blowing records. Their prayers were finally answered when the Smashing Pumpkins reunited in 2006 and released the album “Zeitgeist”. The response from the fans was amazing and this was the right time to hit the road. So the Smashing Pumpkins toured extensively throughout 2007 and 2008 and performed in front of sold out crowds.
Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds – An Overview
Another highlight of the night will be the performance by Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds. Former Oasis lead guitarist and songwriter Noel Gallagher laid the foundation of the band in 2010. He left Oasis due to a rift with his brother Liam Gallagher and decided to embark on his solo career through the band Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds. The band’s lineup includes the drummer Jeremy Stacey, keyboard player Mike Rowe and percussionist Lenny Castro.
The name of the band is taken from two sources. The prefix comes from Noel Gallagher’s idea while he was washing dishes and had the album “Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac” on his playlist. While the second part of the band name seeks inspiration from the track “High Flying Bird” by Jefferson Airplane.
The group debuted with their self-titled album to excellent reviews. Its songs “The Death Of You and Me”, “AKA… What a Life!”, “Everybody’s on the Run” and “If I had A Gun” became blockbusters. The success followed with their sophomore album “Chasing Yesterday” that was equally praised by the fans and critics.
Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds came up with their third album “Who Built The Moon?” that hit the shelves in 2017. It was yet again a remarkable work of music that also led to the revival of Noel’s love for noisy neo-psychedelic.
