Following its formation in 1974, Bob Seger released the very first album with the Silver Bullet Band called “Seven”. Although the album didn’t create much stir, it did score a modest hit called Get Out of Denver. This was then followed by the group’s second studio record called “Live Bullet”. Silver Bullet Band’s second studio effort turned out to be a bigger commercial success as compared to its predecessor. The album stood its ground on Billboard chart for several weeks and peaked at #34 spot. Apart from the originals, “Live Bullet” also featured Seger’s covered version of Tina Turner’s Nutbush City Limits.
Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band’s 1976 release turned out to be a breakthrough effort for the group. Titled “Night Moves”, the album spawned several hits including the title song. Other hits from the album also included We’ve Got Tonight, Hollywood Nights as well as Fire Lake. All of these tracks and several more turned out to be some of the most recognized tunes by the Silver Bullet Band. Songs like Old Time Rock & Roll were also used in quite a few commercials, which made them household jingles of that time.
Along with his endeavors with the Silver Bullet Band, Bob Seger also kept on releasing albums as a solo artist. His next effort with the Silver Bullet Band surfaced in 1982 under the title “The Distance”. Spawning tracks like Roll Me Away and Even Now, the album garnered positive critical response but failed to grasp significant commercial gains. As the album sales dropped significantly, the Silver Bullet Band earned mild success with its rock ballad called Understanding which was featured as an OST for the movie Teachers.
After suffering a major commercial decline, the group didn’t release new material up until “Like a Rock” which came out in 1986. The title track as well as American Storm led the way for the group as they once again became frequents on radio airwaves. The album itself went on to enjoy platinum status after selling more than a million units.
In the midst of all the recording efforts, Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band also kept on touring from time to time. In 1996, the group had a successful North American run and enjoyed fourth largest number of tickets sold during that year in North America. Prior to that, Silver Bullet Band released “The Fire Inside” and “It’s a Mystery” in 1991 and 1995 respectively. However, both of these studio albums were lost in the mist caused by popularity of grunge, glam and alternative rock genres.
In 2006, Seger and his band came up with their first album since 1995. Titled “Face the Promise”, the album stayed on Billboard chart for several weeks and has sold more than a million copies to date. The year 2014 saw the release of Seger and his band’s most recent and probably the last album called “Ride Out”. The record attracted moderate to positive reviews from the likes of Rolling Stone, Chicago Tribune and American Songwriter. Shortly after the release, a North American concert tour was also announced in support of the album. So while the rollercoaster ride lasts, make sure you catch Seger with his band as the head down to your hometown. Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band tickets are on sale for all the upcoming dates of his tour.
