Even though 7 years sounds like a short amount of time, it is practically considered ages in the world of music. Let’s have a look at all the band has accomplished in this time.
Formation and the First EP
After forming in 2009, the band released its first EP, titled Come Wind, Come Weather under the production of Matt Goldman. This recording was released on May 15, 2012. Following this, the band toured with Becoming the Archetype, I, Of Helix and Dayseeker. They also played at the California Metalfest in 2012.
Lastsleep (1944-1946) and Inspirations from the World War
In keeping with the band’s image of bringing forth hardcore issues, the band released a single in 2013, titled “Tiny Hands (Au Revoir)” which relates the story of Marguerite Rouffanche, an actual survivor of the famous 1994 Orandour-sur-Glane massacre. After the release of this single, the band continued playing at various locations, including the Scream the Prayer Tour, alongside bands such as Wolves At The Gate and Fit for a King. In July of 2013, the band released yet another inspirational song, titled, Darkstrand (Hibakusha). This song tells listeners the saddening story of a World War II victim, with the story being set in Japan, right after the historic nuclear bombing of Hiroshima.
Following the release of these two inspirational story-teller singles, the band came out with another EP. This one was called Lastsleep (1944 – 1946) and was based entirely on the various stories of World War II victims. Later this year, the band also started touring alongside names such as Sleeping Giant, This or the Apocalypse, The Ongoing Fear, Lionfight and Those Who Fear.
The Night God Slept (2014-2016) and Everything Was Sound (2016)
It was announced on July 13, 2014, that the first complete album from the band was set to be released in the fall of 2014. The album was eventually released in November 2014 and it was titled, The Night God Slept. It was released under Solid State Records. Singles from the album including “XX (City Grave),” “Native Blood,”,= “Depths II” and “firstwake” were some of the first to be released and struck the right chord with the band’s target audience.
Next came Everything Was Sound. Silent Planet announced this album on the Vans Warped Tour Instagram page and set the planned release date to be 1st July, 2016. Silent Planet has already released three singles from this upcoming albums and all three of these songs have been pretty well-received by their fans. These include, “Panic Room”, “Psychescape” and “Orphan”. This album has been praised as the most unique sound production from the band. It combines the sophisticated metalcore sound of the band with the quiet voice of the alienated. The band’s vocalist says about this album that, “So many people feel completely alone. This album was inspired by the people I have interacted with, who feel like nobody can or wants to understand them. It is very evil to leave people isolated like that. Our goal is to make people’s stories visible, to give words to and to give music to things that aren’t often talked about. Take the track “Panic Room” for example. God gave me a vision, in a very mystical way, of my friend who suffers with PTSD. I wanted to tell his story in a way that honored him.”
With such an inspirational message being brought to you by a band that has their own interesting way of storytelling, there isn’t much left to think about. You ought to grab these Silent Planet tickets at the earliest and watch live what these gentlemen are all about!
