The man behind Shakey Graves is Alejandro Rose-Garcia. This young musician was born in Austin, Texas in 1987 and developed a passion for music from a young age.
About Shakey Graves
The name Shakey Graves was something that was given to him by his friends at Old Settler's Music Festival in 2007. Him and his group of friends were joking around and giving each other Indian guide names over a campfire. The name that Alejandro was given was Shakey Graves which he then adopted as his stage name.
Shakey Graves has been a regular at music festivals across North America for many years now. He’s frequently on the line-up for these events and he has toured extensively around the country.
His debut album, Roll the Bones, showcased his incredible musical abilities and talents to the world. He played the entirety of that record by himself without the help of any other musicians. When his album dropped, he became known for his one-man band set-up. When he was promoting his initial album, he maintained the one-man show.
For his second album, And the War Came, Rose-Garcia decided that he wanted to experiment with his sound and add more musicians into the mix. Other musicians were therefore included in not only the recording process but also for his live set.
The album also featured three songs which were duets with ex-Paper Bird member Esme Patterson.
One of the contributing artists on the record, Chris Boosahda, was also the individual who mixed, engineered and produced Rose-Garcia’s second album. Boosahda contributed to the song “Big Time Nashville Star” on the album by doing drums, percussion, vocals and music.
Another artist who contributed to the album was Patrick O'Connor from the LA music scene. He has joined Rose-Garcia on stage and played guitar and bass.
Therefore, while Shakey Graves started out as a one man show, it has evolved and moved forward as a duo and trio project.
The Shakey Graves Appeal
In 2014, due to his growing popularity, Shakey Graves was ready to make his television debut. On October 14, accompanied by Boosahda, Patterson, and Robinson, Shakey Graves performed on Conan.
Four months later, the exact same quartet performed on the Late Show with David Letterman. This was followed by another performance three months later on the Late Night with Seth Meyers. However, Patterson would not perform with them this time when they performed their single “The Perfect Parts”, from “And The War Came”.
In 2015, the same trio would perform on the legendary Austin City Limits TV show/taping. This was a hometown performance for Rose Garcia and was very well received.
In September 2015, Shakey Graves would win the Best Emerging Artist Award at the 2015 Americana Music Awards. At the award show, he and Esme Patterson performed their hit “Dearly Departed”.
Shakey Graves has also been honored by his hometown. On February 9, 2012, it was declared "Shakey Graves Day" by the then Mayor of Austin, Lee Leffingwell. Every year after that on Shakey Graves day, Rose-Garcia puts on a concert in his hometown alongside other local musicians and bands. Fans of Shakey Graves can download all of his music which is available on bandcamp for pay-what-you-want prices for two days following Shakey Graves Day. Fans can also download unreleased albums The State of Texas vs. Alejandro Rose-Garcia, Story of my Life, As Per Request, West of Calgary, and Nobody's Fool, which are only available 3 days a year.
