Stage One and Dutty Rock
Sean Paul’s first studio album was titled, ‘Stage One’ and it hit the stores in 2000. The record did not impress the critics or the fans. He then turned heads when he released his sophomore album, ‘Dutty Rock’ in 2002. The record brought him mainstream success and was certified platinum in the United States. The album also attracted fans from other parts of the world like Australia where it went gold. Moreover, it topped the Canadian Albums and Top Rap Albums chart. ‘Dutty Rock’ also earned him his first Grammy Award, in the category of the ‘Best Reggae Album’ in 2004.
Following the massive success of ‘Dutty Rock,’ Sean Paul churned out his third studio album, ‘The Trinity’ which saw the light of day in 2005. The record charted everywhere in the world and featured collaborative songs, Break it Off and Cry Baby Cry, with Rihanna and Carlos Santana. It received overwhelmingly positive response from the critics and USA Today gave the album four stars out of five. Moreover, it was not only nominated for a Grammy Award but also gave a hit single, Temperature which appeared in a number of video games like, ‘Dance Dance Revolution SuperNOVA 2’ and ‘Dance Central.’ In addition to that, ‘The Trinity’ also spawned a single, (When You Gonna) Give it Up to Me for which he took home the American Music Award.
Making people dance
After taking a break from making music for some time, Sean Paul announced that he will be releasing a new album, ‘Imperial Blaze.’ The fans finally got to enjoy this record in 2009. It peaked at the first spot on the Top Rap Albums and publications like, USA Today, AllMusic and Toronto Star published positive reviews about it. The record also produced three singles, So Fine, Press it Up and Hold My Hand all of which received massive airplay. ‘Imperial Blaze’ also went on to sell more than one hundred thousand copies in the United States.
Three years later, Sean Paul came out with another record, ‘Tomahawk Technique’ which hit the shelves five years ago in 2012. Many famous stars made appearance on this album including, Alexis Jordan, Kelly Rowland, Future Fambo and Dj Ammo. It featured thirteen songs on the tracklist out of which six were released as singles. Two of those, Got 2 Luv U and She Doesn’t Mind became insanely popular. The album was certified gold by the SNEP and the IFPI SWI. On top of that, it was also nominated for a Grammy Award for the ‘Best Reggae Album.’
The last studio album that Sean Paul released was titled, ‘Full Frequency.’ It arrived in the markets three years ago in 2014. The album met the expectations of reggae fans and offered some memorable singles like, Turn it Up, Want Dem All and Other Side of the Love. It featured fourteen songs on the tracklist and earned him another nomination for the Grammy Award in the category of the ‘Best Reggae Album.’
