Belonging to Hannover, Germany, the Scorpions are most noted for their rock anthem, "Rock You Like a Hurricane". This song ranks # 18 on VH1's list for the 100 Greatest Hard Rock Songs. They have given numerous hit singles including, "Still Loving You", "No One Like You", "Send Me an Angel" and "Wind of Change". The Scorpions came into existence in 1965 and continue to rock their fans even after 45 years. Their latest album called Sting in the Tail would also be their last album, as they have announced their retirement after their last tour.
Together Rudolf Schenker, along with younger brother, Michael and Klaus Meine formed the band in 1965. The band debuted in 1774, with their album Lonesome Crow. While touring for the album, Michael left the band and joined the band UFO as a lead guitarist. The band broke up after Michael's departure. Schenker decided to join the band, Dawn Road. The band members included Francis Buchholz, Roth, Jurgen Rosenthal and Achim Kirschning. Later, Klause Meine also joined the band. The band members unanimously decided to use Scorpions as their band's name since it was established already as a hard rock band.
With their album Fly to the Rainbow, Scorpions made their way up to the success ladder and songs like "Speedy's Coming" helped in popularizing the band. However, after the album's release, Jurgen Rosenthal and Achim Kirschning left the band. A new drummer was inducted in the band as a member, he was called Rudy Lenners. Their album In Trance was released in 1975. The album was undoubtedly a success and it established the band's Hard rock style as well. Gaining oversees success with tracks like "Robot Man" "Dark Lady" the fans all across the world went wild. The scorpions released the Virgin Killer, which also enjoyed commercial success. The Scorpions have seventeen albums crediting them for their work and appreciation. Taken by Force and LoveDrive came out in 1970s. Animal Magnetism, Blackout, Love at First Sting, and Savage Amusement, popularized them even further in 1980s. Crazy World marked the beginning of the 90's era, which is highlighted by other hit albums such as Face the Heat, Pure Instinct, and Eye II Eye. Their first album in the new Millennium was called, Unbreakable, was released in 2004. Their later successes in 2000s include Humanity: Hour I, and Sting in the Tail. The last one sold 18500 copies in USA on the very first day of its release.
Throughout its history, the band's line-up kept on changing. Rudy Lenners and Roth resigned from the band and new members took their places in 1978. The current line-up of the band includes, Klause Meine on lead vocals. He is perhaps the only member who has consistently been with it since the time of its formation in 1970. Matthias Jabs, a backing vocalist and a lead and rhythm guitarist. He joined the band in 1978. Rudolf Schenker is also on rhythm and lead guitars and backing vocals. James Kottak is on backing vocals, drums and percussion. He was inducted in the band in 1996. The last induction in the band was Pawel Maciwoda. He became part of the band in 2003 and is on the backing vocals and bass. Together, they are coming to rock you all, so be prepared for a stimulating live concert!
