This was a triumph for not only transatlantic broadcasting but for orchestra recognition as well it was a gargantuan achievement. It was also the first symphony ever to be heard on a radio broadcast in 1926. Today, its milestone has left it to be heard on over four hundred radio stations around the world. Some of the most famous music directors over the years have had the honor of directing the music of the Symphony. Names like Josef Krips and Seiji Ozawa are synonymous with the symphony.
 
The Symphony does no limit its performances to the United States alone. It regularly plays and performs at venues across the world. Not only are they revered in Europe and its Opera houses but also in Asia where love for the orchestra is fast growing. Their amazing appetite for performing was observed on their first tour in the late forties. This tour stretched across fifty three cities and the San Francisco Symphony performed a staggering sixty concerts. In the late sixties the symphony went global when it performed for the first time in Japan. A few years after their unflustered success in Japan, the orchestra was given contracts to perform in Russia and Europe. The striking direction and relentless efforts of the musicians have been the bane of their success for decades.
