“La Salsa Vive” is a salsa concert, which will feature some of the biggest salsa artists in the world at Madison Square Garden. As a tribute to Puerto Rican composer and singer Cheo Feliciano, the “World’s Most Famous Arena” will be hosting the “La Salsa Vive.” The line-up will feature Sergio George, Los Salsa Giants and Gilberto Santa Rosa. The Salsa Giants comprise ten salsa singers hailing from different countries around the globe. The spectacular line up of artists includes Marc Anthony, Tito Nieves, Charlie Zaa, Oscar Leon, Luis Enrique, Willy Chirino, José Alberto "El Canario," Andy Montañez, Cheo Feliciano and Nora, and is assembled by Sergio George. Popularly referred to as the "salsa gigantes" or "Gigantes salsa," the Spanish group will soon be performing at Madison Square Garden this fall.
The Salsa Giants emerged as a group in 2012, when they performed for the first time at the “North Sea Jazz Festival” of Curacao. They entertained about twelve thousand concert goers during the show. The following year, the group toured extensively and covered several venues in Lima, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Guatemala, Colombia and more.
Earlier in 2013, during the summer, Sergio George’s record label Top Stop Music (in) released a CD under the title “Sergio George Presents Salsa Giants (Live).” The musical composition was also posted on another label, Planet Records. The CD was co-produced by Gregory Elias Pablo Croce and Sergio George. The tracks included Yo No Sé Mañana by Luis Enrique, Medias Negras by Willy Chirino, Mi Enamorate by Tito Nieves, Fabricando Fantasías by Tito Nieves and Aguanile by Marc Anthony amongst others.
Multiple Latin Grammy Award winning artist Sergio George is an arranger, pianist and record producer. Over the years, the talented musician has performed in association with several salsa music performers. His associated acts include renowned artists such as Marc Anthony, Johnny Rivera, Jennifer Lopez, Ivy Queen and Tito Nieves amongst others.
Sergio grew up in the New York City. His professional career kicked off in 1979 when he started working with Conjunto Clásico and Conjunto Caché. During the eighties, he began session recordings which were followed by live performances. Sergio stepped into the limelight in 1988 when he produced "The Classic," Tito Nieves's debut album. Post the release of this album, Sergio earned the status as “one of the most sought after producers.”
Over the years Sergio has earned numerous awards. In 2008, he won the Latin Grammy Award for “Producer of the Year.” This was an appreciation of his work for Historia De Taxi (featuring Marc Anthony) by Ricardo Arjona, Quiero Decirte Que Te Amo (featuring Ness) by DLG, La Vida Se Va by Gloria Trevi and more.
He won his second Latin Grammy at the 11th Latin Grammy Awards. He earned the award for the same category as before, “Producer of the Year.” This time around he was praised for his compositions including Stand By Me, Corazón Sin Cara andTu y Yo by Prince Royce along with Smile, Si Él Te Habla De Mi, Te Vas a Arrepentir, Estúpida by La India. At the 14th Latin Grammy Awards, Sergio proudly took home three Latin Grammys including “Producer of the Year,”“Best Salsa Album” (Sergio George Presents Salsa Giants) and “Record of the Year” ("Vivir Mi Vida" by Marc Anthony).
Joining Los Salsa Giants and Sergio George on stage at the Madison Square Garden this year will be Gilberto Santa Rosa. He is popularly known as “El Caballero de la Salsa" (The Gentleman of Salsa). The Puerto Rican bandleader specializes in salsa as well as bolero.
Honored with a star, he was inducted to the Walk of Fame at the Celia Cruz Park in Union City. As of 2010, the brilliant artist holds the record for having the most number one albums on Billboard’s Tropical Albums chart.
