Sammy Kershaw: The country superstar
Sammy Kershaw became obsessed with country music quite early on. After taking inspiration from legends like, Hank Williams and George Jones, he began to perform gigs in local beer and honky-tonk joints which helped him gain popularity. He also got the chance to open for a number of popular acts like, Merle Haggard and Ray Price.
In the early ‘90s, Kershaw decided to make a career as a country singer. He signed with Mercury Records and issued his debut studio record, ‘Don’t Go Near the Water.’ This was a pretty impressive effort by him as it recorded platinum level sales in the United States and featured four singles out of which, Cadillac Style peaked at the third spot on the Hot Country Songs chart.
Following the release of, ‘Don’t Go Near the Water,’ Sammy Kershaw continued to drop many more successful studio records throughout the remainder of the ‘90s. Some of his most famous records that came out during that decade include, ‘Haunted Heart’ and ‘Labor of Love.’ These two albums were not only certified platinum by the RIAA but also generated great reviews from the critics.
Kershaw is still actively making music today. He spawned his latest studio effort to date, ‘The Blues Got Me’ on May 13, 2016. It contained eleven catchy songs on the track-list.
Aaron Tippin: The ultimate star of the ‘90s
Aaron Tippin became a huge country star in the ‘90s. Taking his musical inspirations from Don Williams, Willie Nelson and Randy Travis, he quickly came under the limelight when his first single, You’ve Got to Stand for Something was released. After that, Tippin went on to enjoy more success when he came out with number-one singles like, That’s as Close as I’ll Get to Loving You and There Ain’t Nothin’ Wrong with the Radio.
Aaron Tippin’s journey towards stardom commenced when he signed with RCA Nashville. In 1991, he spawned his debut studio record, ‘You’ve Got to Stand for Something’ which went gold in the United States. Many publications praised the record including AllMusic which gave it 4.5/5 stars. He followed that up by dropping three more gold selling albums, ‘Call of the Wild,’ ‘Lookin’ Back at Myself’ and ‘Tool Box.’ Tippin has also released one platinum record titled, ‘Read Between the Lines.’
Collin Raye: The country hit maker
Collin Raye got into country music after getting inspired by acts like, Elton John, Vince Gill and Waylon Jennings. His career took off during the ‘90s as he dropped multiple number-one hits during that decade including, Love, Me, In This Life, My Kind of Girl and I Can Still Feel You.
Collin Raye started his career by releasing his debut studio effort, ‘All I Can Be’ in 1991. It landed at the seventh spot on the Top Country Albums and was certified platinum by the RIAA. He then released three more studio albums, ‘In This Life,’ ‘Extremes’ and ‘I Think About You’ all of which went on to sell in excess of one million copies in the United States. Raye’s popularity then started to decline gradually in the 2000s as none of his records could achieve the level of success enjoyed by his previous works. He released his most recent studio record to date, ‘Everlasting’ in 2014. Since then, Raye hasn’t put out any new material.
