Date & Time

Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Brian Jones and Ian Stewart got together and formed The Rolling Stones in the year 1962. The Marquee Club was the venue for their debut performance which came in July of 1962. Charlie Watts and Bill Wyman then hopped on board to complete the line-up.

Their talents were spotted by Decca Records who proceeded to sign them up immediately. They made their debut with a self-titled album in the year 1964. The album was released in their native United Kingdom only and turned out to be a huge hit. It went to the top of the charts and spent a whopping fifty one weeks at the pinnacle. A month and a half later the LP made its way to the US with the title "England’s Newest Hit Makers" and went gold there.

They followed that up by coming out with their second LP titled "The Rolling Stones No.2" in the first month of the year 1965. It was re-named "The Rolling Stones, No!" for the United States. The LP was another big hit that once again went to the top in the UK and reached as high as the fifth spot in the U.S.

The Rolling Stones made the breakthrough on a global level with the song "(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction."  The track when released in the United States, went to the number one spot in no time and announced the arrival of the group in some style. The U.S version of their LP "Our of their Heads" was another smash hit that captured the top spot and went as high as number two in the United Kingdom. It went on to sell over one million copies in the U.S. to be certified platinum.

1966 saw "Aftermath" hit the music stores in both countries. It remained at the number one spot in the UK for twenty eight weeks and topped that by going platinum in the U.S. The group were the hottest thing in music by now and fans were buying The Rolling Stones tickets in thousands everywhere they went to perform to make every concert a sold-out affair.

"Between the Buttons" went gold across the Atlantic in the US upon its release in 1967. The feat was repeated by their next album which was titled "Their Satanic Majesties Request." "Beggars Banquet" went platinum but bigger and better things were about to make their way these amazing performers.

"Let It Bleed" was released in the last month of 1969 and broke records. The album sold well over two million copies in the US and half of that in the UK to earn two times platinum and a platinum status respectively. That was followed by "Stick Fingers" that went one step further to earn triple platinum status in the US.

The Rolling Stones didn’t stop there and released "Exile on Main St," and "Goats Head Soup" that went platinum and three times platinum respectively. The next two released "It’s Only Rock ‘n Roll" and "Black and Blue" both sold over a million copies each but what came next was unbelievable.

"Some Girls" was released on 9th June, 1978 and it became an instant rage. The album captured the imagination of the American public big time and sold not one, not two ,not three but an incredible six million copies on the way to going six times platinum. "Emotional Rescue," "Tattoo You," "Undercover," "Dirty Work," "Steel Wheels," " Voodoo Lounge," "Bridges to Babylon" and "A Bigger Bang" followed and all of them went went platinum or above.

The Rolling Stones have gone on to sell well over two hundred million records around the globe. They have won every award in the business and are ranked on the fourth spot by Rolling Stones publication on their list of the greatest music artists in history. The icons have hit the road once again so grab your tickets and enjoy the company of one of the biggest names to have ever come out of music.

Over the years they have at least eight chart topping number one singles and at a time produced ten albums all of which went gold. Their general influence on the western music development cannot be underestimated. They left their mark on the counter culture of the sixties and seventies as they developed a reputation of having a wild behavior overall. They represented the perfect counter weights to the clean cut image of the Beatles in the sixties.

When the Rolling Stones started back in 1962, the original lineup consisted of Mick Jagger on the lead vocals whereas Keith Richards and Brian Jones handled the guitar, sitar and backing vocals. The drums were in the capable hands of Charlie Watts and Ian Stewart played the piano pieces. Last but not the least; Bill Wyman was the band’s bass guitarist.  Over the years, many changes happened to the lineup as band members exited and entered due to a variety of reasons. The current lineup includes Mick Jagger Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ron Wood (on the bass guitar).

The Rolling Stones had their roots in the American (R&B) Blues and early rock n roll. They were influenced by some of the major rhythm and blues artists of the time such as Chuck Berry, Jimmy Reed, Muddy Waters and Little Richard. They were also big fans of the jazz giant Miles Davis.  The Stones would experiment a lot before they created their signature sound. The sound combined an edgier version of R&B with amped up rock and roll. This was a sound that would become the base of the hard rock, much produced in the last four decades. As their career progressed the band never shied away from mixing different styles and influences into their music. They mainly worked with folk, reggae, country and even dance music. They also flirted with world music, using eastern instruments in their mainstream records. In the late 60s, the Stones also experimented with Psychedelic music.

The Rolling Stone scored their first massive hit in 1965 as the song, "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction", which climbed to number one position in charts all over the world.  They came back in 1966 with another song that would top the charts at number one, "Paint It Black". This song simply made the band rock n roll stars of the decade. Over the years the Stones produced a steady stream of chart topping singles which include "Honky Tonk Women", "Brown Sugar", "Get Off My Cloud", "Miss You", "Angie" and "Ruby Tuesday". Their best selling album of all times is Hot Rocks (a greatest hits collection covering 1964-71), and has sold more than twelve million records. Some of their other albums that both fans and critics absolutely love are Sticky Fingers (1971), Let It Bleed (1969), Beggars Banquet (1968), Some Girls (1978) and Goats Head Soup (1973).

Over the decades the Rolling Stones have been nominated to awards around the world countless times and have taken home quite a few awards for memory. This includes Grammy Awards, Juno Awards, MTV Video Music Awards and World Music Awards (WMA). In 1995, the Stones won the Grammy Awards for the category Best Rock Album for Voodoo Lounge and category Best Music Video, Short Form for Love Is Strong. In 1987, they were presented a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Grammys. In 1991, the Stones won the Juno Award in the category International Entertainer of the Year. They were presented the  MTV Lifetime Achievement Award in 1994 and the World Music Award in the category of World's Greatest Touring Band of All Time in 2005. The Rolling Stones were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989.

Rock icons, The Rolling Stones are rereleasing their classic album Sticky Fingers. This career defining album was first released in 1971. Topping “The Billboard 200” chart, the album spawned some classic hits including “Brown Sugar” and “Wild Horses”. The rock quartet recently reissued the single “Bitch” from the album. In relation to the album reissue, the legendary Rock and Roll Hall of Famers are back on the road yet again with their Zip Code Tour. Set to take the quartet on a summer trek across North American stadiums and amphitheaters, the tour will feature notable stopovers at Marcus Amphitheater, Petco Park, Ohio Stadium, Heinz Field and Comerica Park.
