Rodney Atkins belongs to Knoxville, Tennessee. He was born in 1969 as Rodney Allan Atkins. He was adopted by Margaret and Allan Atkins when he was still a child and with his parents he kept on moving to various cities but eventually his family settled in Claiborne County in Tennessee. Atkins liked playing guitar and often used to play at his college events as well as festivals. He met different lyricists while studying at Tennessee Tech in Cookeville which is a small serene town in Putnam County Tennessee. He soon started writing his own songs and eventually landed in the hub of country music Nashville Tennessee to pursue his music career. After some initial struggle he was able to sign a record deal with Curb Records in 1996. Since then he has been associated with the label and all his albums have been released by Curb.
 
Rodney Atkins first came into prominence when his first album Honesty was released in 2003. The album immediately caught attention of country music fans, it entered US Top Country Album charts at #50 and #47 at US Top Heatseekers. After a gap of almost three years Atkins released yet another hit album named If You’re Going Through Hell. This album played a major role in making Atkins a major star of country music. It was the first album by him that raced to the #1 position on US Country charts and also was the first to enter US Billboard at #3. If You’re Going Through Hell is the only album of Atkins that sold around a million copies in the US earning a platinum status. Four singles from this album were super hits and they were “If You’re Going Through Hell (Before the Devil Even Knows)”, “Watching You”, “These Are My people” and “Cleaning This Gun (Come On In Boys)”. All these four singles were at the #1position on US Hot Country Songs, “Watching You” went platinum whereas the other three went gold.  
 
Since then Rodney Atkins has released two more album namely It’s America and Take a Back Road, both these albums have been able to enter the country charts at #3. Singles “Farmer’s Daughter” from It’s America and “Take a Back Road” earned platinum certification. During his career Atkins has received five Academy of Country Music Award nominations in categories like Video of the Year, Song of the Year and Album of the Year. He has won one Academy of Country Music Award for Top Ne Male Artist. Atkins has also received two Country Music Association Award nominations for New Artist of the Year and Horizon Award.
