Rob Schneider was born and raised in San Francisco, California. He was always drawn to comedy and started his stand-up comedy career when he was in high school. It helped that his older brother John was a producer because that’s how he got his break into the comedy scene. While still in high school, he opened for a very popular group from the San Francisco area called Head On.
After graduating he would go on to make the rounds of all the big clubs and radio shows in the Bay Area. In 1987 he opened for comedian Dennis Miller which opened many doors for him. Schneider was selected by Miller to appear on HBO's 13th Annual Young Comedians special. He did so well that he was picked up as a writer for the hugely popular NBC show Saturday Night Live.
A Booming Entrance into Comedy
It didn’t take Rob Schneider long to transition from being a full time writer on SNL to a full cast member. For four years, Schneider would appear in numerous hilarious skits on the show and developed a number of memorable recurring characters. These include The Richmeister, Carlo, and The Sensitive Naked Man.
After leaving SNL, Schneider made the transition into acting in feature films and sitcoms. He had supporting roles in movies such as Judge Dredd, Demolition Man, Down Periscope, and Surf Ninjas. He then went on to act in the TV shows Coach and Men Behaving Badly.
Bigger Roles, Bigger Movies
With time, the roles that Rob Schneider started getting were much bigger, and so were the movies that he was starring in. One of his most famous movies is Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo. This was followed by The Animal, The Hot Chick, and Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo.
Rob Schneider is also known for taking on numerous movie roles alongside another SNL alum and his good friend, Adam Sandler. The two have appeared together in movies such as Little Nicky, 50 First Dates, Bedtime Stories, The Water boy, The Longest Yard, Click, Grown Ups, and You Don’t Mess With the Zohan.
Stand up Career
Despite having a solid career in Hollywood, Rob Schneider was always drawn to his comedic roots in stand up. Although he spent a considerable amount of time away from stand up, Schneider made his return to stand-up comedy in 2009 after nearly two decades away from it.
Since that time, he released two comedy albums titled Registered Offender and Soy Sauce and the Holocaust. These days, he puts a great deal of his time and energy into his live stand up shows. In addition, he has a new show out on Netflix called Real Rob. This is a show that Schneider not only acts in, but has also written, directed, produced and self-financed. This made him the first actor in history to take on all of those roles for a show.
When he’s not doing his screen work, he dedicates most of his time to stand-up comedy tours. Rob Schneider has received roaring reviews for his international comedy tours and continues to perform across the United States as well.
Anyone who has ever watched Rob Schneider on TV or in a movie knows that his trademark humor is absolutely hilarious. Seeing him perform his stand up routine live is a whole different experience.
