Born on the 26th of November, 1938 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, Richard Caruthers Little is not only an exceptionally talented standup comedian, but he is also a very skilled voice actor and impressionist. Another famous voice actor Mel Blanc called him "The Man of a Thousand Voices." He had an interest in impressionism from a young age. He partnered with another impressionist Geoff Scott when he was in his early teens and reproduced voices of different political figures such as Charlotte Whitton, the mayor of Ottawa and John Diefenbaker, who was the country’s Prime Minister at the time. By the time they were seventeen years old, the duo was performing at professional level in night clubs.
Rich Little began his career in acting at the Little Theatre in Ottawa. He participated in the Eastern Ontario Drama Festival and managed to win an acting award for the first time. Shortly after that, he tried his hand at DJ-ing. He got his own show, where he would frequently impersonate famous people. In the year 1963 he gave an audition for a television show. He cleared it and made his TV debut on The Judy Garland Show on CBS. Here, he impersonated several famous people including James Mason.
Rich Little was part of Love on a Rooftop in the years ‘66 and ’67. It was a sitcom by Judy Carne which was shown on ABC-TV. In the year 1967, Little made an appearance on That Girl as well, where he played the role of a writer. After that, he made countless appearances on talk shows and variety shows which made him a popular comedian and impressionist. One of the most famous people he impersonated was Richard Nixon, the President of the United States.
During the ‘70s, he appeared on various television shows as a guest. One of his most popular television series was The Kopycats. It was first broadcasted in the year 1972. He acted along with Vaughn Meader, Earle Doud, Jenilee Harrison, Shelly Black, Michael Richards and Melanie Chartoff. He also impersonated President Ronald Reagan. In addition to that, he has acted in numerous HBO specials.
The comedian has issued nine albums over the course of his versatile career and appeared in countless films.
