This is a month long US-wide tour which will showcase the works of legendary artists and bands such as Howard Jones, Men without Hats, Modern English, The English Beat and Katrina of Katrina & The Waves.
Howard Jones is arguably one of the pioneers of ‘80s synth pop. AllMusic has described him as one of the defining figures of mid-‘80s synth pop. Hailing from England, Jones is a singer and song-writer whose singles ruled the English charts from 1983 to 1986. Howard Jones has released 12 studio albums, 30 singles, 1 EP, 9 compilation albums and 3 live albums. Human’s Lib was his debut studio album, which was released in 1984. The album was certified double Platinum in the UK and debuted at No.1 on the UK Albums Chart. Some of the most memorable songs from this album were New Song, Hide and Seek, Pearl in the Shell and What Is Love? Jones’s last studio album Engage was released in 2015. Hold On To Your Heart was a hit single from this album. If you’re a fan of Howard Jones, then get your tickets today.
Men without Hats
Every new wave/synthpop fan has heard of Pop Goes the World and The Safety Dance. The baritone voice of this band’s lead singer still echoes in every new wave/synthpop fan’s mind. The voice is none other than that of Ivan Doroschuk’s and the band is of course Men without Hats. Hailing from Montreal, Quebec, Men without Hats now consists of Sho Murray, Rachel Ashmore and Lou Dawson, in addition to Doroschuk. The band has released 7 studio albums with Rhythm of Youth being their debut album, released in 1982. Love in the Age of War has been their last album (it was released in 2012). In addition to Pop Goes the World and The Safety Dance Men without Hats is also known for some other chartbusting songs such as Ideas for Walls, Devil Come Round, Jenny Wore Black, I Like and many others. While the band hasn’t released anything new lately, the best way to listen to their new music is by being where they are performing live.
An English new wave and post-punk band from Essex, Modern English shot to fame with singles Ink and Paper, Hands Across the Sea and I Melt with You. The band has released 8 studio albums, out of which their sophomore album After the Snow was certified Gold in the US by the RIAA. The band’s latest album Take Me to the Trees was released in 2016. While this album failed to chart, it however was welcomed by Modern English fans since it had been released after a hiatus of 6 long years. If you’re a fan of this band, then be at this year’s Retro Futura Tour.
The English Beat
The Beat, better known as The English Beat in North America, is another English band, which will perform live at the Retro Futura Tour. Gurus of punk rock, reggae, soul and pop, The English Beat offer it all during their live concerts. The band shot to fame in the early ‘80s with the release of Special Beat Service, Wha’ppen? and I Just Can’t Stop It. I Just Can’t Stop It was certified Gold in the UK, while Wha’ppen? was certified Silver. Their everlasting songs are All Out to Get You, Hands Off, She’s Mine, Can’t Get Used to Losing You, Too Nice to Talk To and Mirror in the Bathroom. If you want to listen to these songs live, then get your Retro Futura Tour tickets today.
Katrina Elizabeth Leskanich, formerly the lead singer of Katrina and the Waves, became an international sensation with the release of Walking on Sunshine. Her solo career has been as successful as her career with Katrina and the Waves and her 6 solo studio albums have earned her worldwide acclaim. Katrina was a star performer at 2014 Retro Futura Tour when she toured the US with China Crisis, Midge Ure, Howard Jones, and Thompson Twins’ Tom Bailey. If you’re a fan of Katrina, then don’t miss out on the 2017 Retro Futura Tour.
