Red Hot Chili Peppers – The Early Years
The band started out under the name of “Miraculously Majestic Masters of Mayhem” and featured guitarist Hillel Slovak and drummer Jack Irons. Slovak died in 1988 after a heroin overdose. Following his death, Iron decided to part ways with the band. John Frusciante and Chad Smith soon joined. By this time the band had released their self-titled debut album, their second album, Freaky Styley and their third album, The Uplift Mofo Party Plan. The lineup after Slovak and Irons left, recorded several studio albums together, including Mother’s Milk.
Making it Big
After signing on with Warner Bros. Records, the band made it big with their 1991 album, Blood Sugar Sex Magik. The subsequent album, One Hot Minute¸ was also a success but not nearly as huge as its predecessor. The biggest success for the band came with their 1999 album, Californication. This album sold 16 million copies all over the world. It was followed by equally successful albums, By The Way and Stadium Arcadium. Stadium Arcadium was their first number-one album in the US. The band’s tenth studio album was released in 2011, followed by their latest venture, The Getaway, in 2016.
