Romano’s role as Raymond remains to be the highlight of his both acting and comedy career. For that, he has also claimed numerous awards including an Emmy Award for the category of Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series in 2002 and an American Comedy Award for the category of Funniest Male Performer in a Television Series Leading Role. With his role he managed to claim the appraisal of both the critics as well the audience. Previously, Ray Romano has also done a comedy show in the White House during the Correspondents Dinner given for President Clinton. Ray Romano had a flair for comedy starting from a very young age. Back when he was just sixteen years of age, Romano formed a comedy troupe by the name of No Talent. Romano was always considered a ‘funny man’ amongst his friends but still he never gave much thought to the fact that he can actually pursue a career as a standup comedian. It wasn’t until in 1984 when Romano performed a standup show at a New York based comedy club and received quite an applause. It was after that when Romano decided to pursue comedy as a profession. But it wasn’t until 1987 when he finally gave his whole heart to pursuing a comedy career professionally. Prior to that he worked a couple of odd jobs, and enrolled with an accounting major in the Queens College. Romano had his first break as a standup comedian back when he won his first standup comedy competition. After winning that standup competition, Romano hired a manager and soon he scored a national television appearance on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. Later on he also made an appearance on a talk show with Jay Leno. In 1995 Romano appeared on Late Night with David Letterman and afterwards he was offered a development deal with Letterman’s production company called Worldwide Pants, which was followed by Romano’s breakthrough with CBS’s hit series Everybody Loves Raymond.
Apart from performing for the President Clinton and Vice President Al Gore at the White House, Romano has also performed and headlined the Toyota Comedy Festival that was staged at the Carnegie Hall. Romano ventured into the film industry after he landed a role in 2003-feature film called Eulogy as Winona Ryder. Later in 2006, Romano also appeared in yet another comedy flick called Grilled alongside his fellow comedian Kevin James. In 2000, he was also featured on an episode of Who Wants to be a Millionaire. In 2001 Romano was ranked amongst the top twenty entertainers of the year by E!. For his role as Raymond, Romano became the highest paid comedian in the history by the year 2004. His show also broke another record by being the highest grossing show on National television. Over the years Romano has also made several other television and movie appearances.
