Rancid was formed in the nineties by Tim Armstrong and Matt Freeman, two already famous members of the ska punk genre of music as a part of the band, Operation Ivy. Indeed, it is a band that is regarded as one of a handful of bands responsible for the revival of punk rock music in the US during the nineties era, alongside punk rock groups like Green Day and The Offspring. Even in this exclusive trio, it retained its uniqueness and remained an independent band. It established a large fanbase slowly and grew to become one of the most popular punk groups in the US and one of the most successful commercially in the independent bands music scene.
Rancid’s lineup includes Tim Armstrong playing the guitar and on vocals, Matt Freeman playing the bass and on vocals, Lars Frederiksen playing the guitar and on vocals with Branden as the drummer. It has a discography filled with seven studio albums, two EPs, a number of live albums, one compilation album and one split albums. Its music has been a part of numerous compilation albums released over time. In sales, it has amassed over four million records sold and is therefore ranked as one of the most successful punk groups of all time amongst independent bands. It hit the spotlight when it released the album Let’s Go in 1994 which contained the hit single Let’s Go. This album also contained the song Radio co-written with Billie Joe Armstrong who also performed live with the band. The album ranked high on the Billboard 200 and the Billboard Heatseekers charts as well as receiving the gold certification by the RIAA.
In 1994, Rancid also went on tour with The Offspring and had its music videos played heavily on MTV. At its height of fame, it was approached by the biggest record labels including Maverick Records, founded by pop queen Madonna. In 1995, they released their next album titled as And Out Come the Wolves. This album became even more famous than their second release and was certified gold in just under a year. It also ranked high on the Billboard 200 charts with its songs ranking high on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks. The songs were also heavily played on MTV as well as on many radio stations in the US.
Popular songs from the third Rancid album included Roots Radicals, Ruby Soho and Time Bomb. Two of these were played by the band live on Saturday Night Live, one of the most popular TV shows in the US. In a few years time, the album And Out Come the Wolves was certified platinum and it was then followed by four more studio albums with the latest being Let the Dominoes Fall, released in 2009.
With millions of records sold, Rancid’s ranking as one of the best punk rocks in the world is no surprise. When it comes to live festivals and tours, it has been a part of Vans Warped Tour five times, European Tours, US Tours, Australia Tours, North American Indestructible Tour, Hellcat Tour, Japan Tours and UK Tours. Such an experienced and popular is definitely the best choice for a night of the finest in punk rock music through Rancid tickets.
