Rachel Platten was brought up in Newton Center, Massachusetts to Jewish parents Paul and Pamela. She became interested in music when she was little and started to learn classical piano when she was just five. Rachel then began to play guitar and later became a member of an all female a cappella group, Trinitones when she took admission in Trinity College. She then moved abroad to do an internship at a record label and a diplomat’s office.
