Terrence LeVarr Thornton or better known to the world as Pusha T was born in the New York City. He started his career by forming a group, Clipse with his brother, No Malice. The duo met with Pharrell Williams, one half of the production team, The Neptunes. Pharrell was impressed by group’s lyrical talent. He helped them secure a record deal with Elekra via which they released their first studio effort, ‘Exclusive Audio Footage’ in 1999. The album was not a commercial success and it failed to chart.
The brothers later signed with Arista Records in 2001 and one year later their second studio album, ‘Lord Willin’’ hit the shelves in 2002. It recorded gold level sales in the United States and climbed to the first spot on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. Moreover the album also reached fourth spot on the Billboard 200 and was included in Pitchfork Media’s list of the ‘Top 200 Albums of the 2000s.’
Hell Hath No Fury and Til the Casket Drops
Clipse recorded their third album, ‘Hell Hath No Fury’ which arrived in the markets in 2006. The record was produced by The Neptunes. It reached second spot on the Top Rap Albums and achieved great critical success. It made it to Blender’s list of,‘The 50 Greatest CDs of 2006’ and was named as, ‘One of the Classic Albums of the Last Decade’ by Complex in 2012. In addition to that it also received four stars out of five from the Rolling Stone.
Pusha T and No Malice worked on their last record titled, ‘Til the Casket Drops’ which was made available in 2009. It also received praise from the critics and reached ninth spot on the, ‘Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums.’ After the release of their fourth studio album, the group broke up in 2010 as both of them wanted to focus on their solo careers.
Fear of God
In 2010, Pusha T got signed to GOOD Music and featured in Kanye West’s single, Runaway which sold over one million copies in the United States. One year later in 2011, he released his debut mixtape as a solo act titled, ‘Fear of God’ and followed it by coming out with the sequel, ‘Fear of God II: Let Us Pray.’
A couple of years later, Pusha T’s first full length studio effort, ‘My Name is My Name’ saw the light of day. It climbed to the fourth spot on Billboard 200 and sold more than one hundred thousand copies in the U.S. The record featured collaborations with many notable stars like, Chris Brown, Rick Ross, Pharrell Williams, Kelly Rowland and Future among others. ‘My Name is My Name’ was also ranked at the forty fourth spot on Consequence of Sound’s list of the ’50 Best Albums of the Year.’
Pusha T’s second studio album, ‘King Push – Darkest Before Dawn: The Prelude’ arrived in the markets in 2015. The record was supported by three singles, Untouchable, M.F.T.R and Crutches, Crosses and Caskets. It received favorable reviews from the critics as Rolling Stone gave it three and a half stars out of five. Moreover, it became his first solo effort to top the Rap Albums chart.
