Project Trio is regarded as one of the most popular chamber music ensembles in the world. Its YouTube channel alone has seen over seventy million views, with more than seventy thousand subscribers, a figure rising day by day. It was founded when the three met each other at the Cleveland Institute of Music in 1996. They then joined the Colorado Music Festival, where two of the members, Stephenson and Seymour, came up with the idea of classical chamber music group that would mix rock with jazz, creating a different experience of classical music.
Project Trio therefore redefined the classical concert and formed up properly in 2005, with their first concert held in Cleveland. Soon after, many more concerts were performed in schools, with music workshops held as well. Flutist Pattillo recorded a video of beatbox and flute, which went viral on the internet and gained over twenty six million views. It was this that attracted bassists Peter Seymour, who left the Cleveland Orchestra to join the duo in New York City.
In 2007, Project Trio ’s first album was released, titled Winter in June. Soon after, the trio went on a tour of the US, visiting cities such as Dallas, Boulder and Detroit. During the following years, this chamber music ensemble performed all over the US, in thirty five states, at venues such as the Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center and the Brooklyn Academy of Music. It also performed at famous festivals such as SXSW. Outside of the US, the group visited countries such as Hong Kong, Canada, Australia and various parts of Europe.
In 2009, their second album was released, followed by a self-titled album in 2010. An active part of music education in the US and other parts of the world, the group has performed at many a school assembly and organized workshops and master classes for fifty thousand plus students. In 2012, they were signed onto Tummy Touch Records, through which they released an album in 2012.
