Pontiak is an American neo-psychedelic rock band from Blue Ridge Mountains in the US state of Virginia. This is a band whose music has been also labeled as indie music, stoner rock music and hard rock music. As such, it is a band that combines some of the greatest flavors of rock and even the heavier hard rock to create a sound that is definitely pleasing to the ears of rock fans and to music fans as a whole. This is a band that has been ranked as one of the Top 100 Acts during the South by Southwest music festival, known best as SXSW, in the festival’s 2011 edition. This honor was conferred on the band by Spinner magazine.
 
Even though Pontiak’s music is classified as neo-psychedelic rock music, it does not fall into any particular genre. This is a band that has been compared to the likes of Neil Young, Harvey Milk and even legendary Black Sabbath. It has participated in many music festivals aside from SXSW including the Hopscotch Music Festival. It has been reviewed by the likes of the BBC and its music has been called a mix of pysch and acid tock, progressive and proto metal and stoner rock blended with indie rock. This is a band with a rich history. The three brothers grew up playing a number of instruments but never had thought of forming a band. They placed the drum on a drum set and played the guitar. The three brothers initially began playing as part of other bands but soon decided to start playing together as one band.
 
Pontiak first played in Baltimore for around five years, releasing a split LP with Arbouretum titled as Swampland. The band became a hit their and then moved to Virginia. Two of the brothers had studying in London, the capital of the UK, and so the band also went on tours to Europe, playing in countries such as England. During these tours, the band was featured on the media by the likes of Strange Glue. To date, this band’s discography consists of nine albums. The first was released in 2005 through Fireproof Records and was titled as White Buffalo. In 2006, the second album was released through the same record label and was titled as Valley of Cats. In 2007, the album Sun on Sun was released through Fireproof Records and also through Thrill Jockey. In 2008, Pontiak released the album Kale featuring the band Arboureturm through the same record label. 2009 saw the band release two albums; Sea Voids and Maker.
 
The year of 2010 saw Pontiak experiment with a different sound and thus the album Living, featured on BBC, was released. In 2011, the EP Comecrudos was released. This band’s latest album, whose songs can be heard live through Pontiak tickets as part of the band’s many live concerts, is Echo One released in 2012.
