Lucía Galán and Joaquín Galán were born in Buenos Aires. They both started following music upon the advice of their parents. Joaquín soon found himself as part of the group, Luna De Cristal with whom he performed cover songs of the legendary bands like, Bee Gees and The Beatles. Meanwhile, Lucía begin to take acting and music classes. She later became a chorister.
The siblings came together and formed Pimpinela when their mother suggested they sing together. Joaquín Galán and Lucía Galán started performing music together in parties, birthdays and family gatherings. They quickly started to gain recognition and signed a record deal with Sony Music. The group’s first studio album, ‘Las Primeras Golondrinas’ was released in 1981. It produced a hit song, Tu Me Prometiste Volver which featured in the television show, ‘Fantástico Producido.’ A year later in 1982, the duo released their much anticipated second studio album titled, ‘Pimpinela.’ It received three stars out of five from AllMusic and gave many popular songs including, Olvidame y Pega la Vuelta which featured in the film, ‘Los fierecillos se divierten.’
After 1982, Pimpinela went on to achieve great success in the industry. After the release of their third album, Harmanos,’ the duo took part in the Festival Internacional de la Canción de Viña del Mar where they won the Silver Torch. Their fourth studio record, ‘Convivencia’ soon arrived in the markets. It was also released in the United States. They spent the rest of the decade producing hits and churning out many popular albums like, ‘Lucía y Joaquín,’ ‘El duende azul,’ ‘Valiente’ and ‘Ahora me toca a mí.’
Rocking the 90s
Pimpinela continued treating the fans of Latin pop with hit music throughout the 90s. Their first record of the decade, ‘Hay amores y amores’ came out in 1990. The album spawned a number of hit songs like, Cuanto Te Quiero, De Julio, Cuesta Abajo and Solitario Corazón. Next year in 1991, the duo completed a decade in the industry and churned out, ‘10 años después’ which featured a highly successful single,
Esa Chica y Yo. After a gap of two years in 1994, Lucía Galán and Joaquín Galán came out with their live record, ‘titulado Nuestras 12 mejores canciones... en concierto!.’ The record featured live versions of their ten songs and also included two new tracks.
Following the release of ‘titulado Nuestras 12 mejores canciones... en concierto!’ the duo recorded many hit albums and later released their studio effort titled, ‘Corazón gitano’ in 1999. It earned them a nomination for a Carlos Gardel Award in the category of the ‘Best Pop Group.’
They are not done yet
After the 90’s concluded, the band not only put out hit records but also wowed the world with their acting skills. They appeared in television shows like, ‘Soy Gitano,’ ‘Mujeres de nadie’ and ‘Laten Corazones.’ Joaquín Galán and Lucía Galán released their latest album one year ago titled, ‘Son todos iguales’ in 2016. The record featured collaborations with famous Spanish singers, Angela Leiva and Luciano Pereyra.
