The American alternative rock band Pavement formed in the year of 1989, in Stockton, California. It started off as a studio project of vocalists and guitarists Scott Kannberg and Stephen Malkmus, and became a full time band in 1992. Two additions were made into the band members, which included an extra percussionist Bob Nastanovich and a bassist Mark Ibold, who was one of the first fans of the band. The band created fractured songs, having cryptic literate lyrics, and terse vocals. Eventually, Pavement’s messy rock songs defined the sound of indie-rock in the mid ‘90s. The band turned into an essential influence for bands yet to come. With defiant low-fidelity, Pavement got itself ranked among the most significant and distinguishing bands that emerged from the American underground in the ‘90s.

Having former members like Gary Young and Jason Fawkes, the current lineup of Pavement includes Stephen Malkmus, Mark Ibold, Bob Nastanovich, Scott Kannberg, and Steve West. After a experiencing a successful decade in the music industry, the band disbanded in 1999, which really saddened the fans. However, in 2009, Pavement announced a reunion. Having spent years apart, the band will now be getting back together for a world tour this year. People, who have loved their loud and noisy songs, are really excited about this event, and ordering their Pavement Tickets beforehand.
Pavement’s initial EPs were Slay Tracks, Demolition Plot J-7, and Perfect Sound Forever.

These were recorded at the home studio of Stockton local and former hippie Gary Young, called Louder Than You Think. Young also played the drums on the band’s recordings. The debut album of the band, titled debut album, Slanted & Enchanted, got released in 1992. Together, the EPs and the band’s debut album, earned Pavement a devoted following of musicians, indie fans, and critics. Its loud and noisy songs, with irony-steeped lyrics highly impressed new and upcoming underground bands in the area that often imitated the band’s style. The most obvious influence of the band itself at that time was The Fall, which was an English rock band; whereas, as stated by one of the band member’s, Kannberg, Pavement liked the band called The Replacements better than The Fall.

Staying signed to an independent record label throughout its decade long career, Pavement released nine EPs and five full length records. In 1999, the band headed for a six month world tour in support of its last album, Terror Twilight. During this tour, disputes among the band members broke out, especially between Malkmus and the other members of the band, which led to the band’s break-up. A decade later, a reunion of the band was announced in the latter half of 2009. Pavement finally reunited in March 2010, giving their very first performance after the hiatus. Now, Pavement is scheduled for a world tour shortly, for which the band is all set, and so are its fans.

Throughout its career, the band has not earned notice beyond the underground rock scene, and has always been on the verge of falling into the mainstream, experiencing only moderate commercial success. Nevertheless, Pavement managed to earn itself a significant cult following, which turned out just fine for the band in the end. As they join forces in a world tour this year, make sure to secure yourself some Pavement Tickets. If you have loved the band before, you will love it again! Spend a rocking evening enjoying the band’s live concerts with your friends and loved ones, and relive the old times! Pavement is going to be presenting its most complicated, clever and flat-out noisy rock tunes, right there, in front of you!
