A Canadian born artist, Pat Travers began learning guitar after witnessing the legendary Jimi Hendrix live in action. Throughout his teens, Travers studied other established guitarists and practiced the instrument. Eventually he began playing with bar bands in Quebec. He embarked on his first touring gig after hooking up with rock and roll veteran Ronnie Hawkins. Soon though he realized his main passion was for hard rock so he headed to London and landed a recording deal with Polydor Records.
In 1976, Travers released his eponymous debut album, which received modest success. With his second album, Putting It Straight, Travers effectively crashed the blues rock scene, attracting the attention of blues and hard rock fans and critics. The album peaked at number eighty on The Billboard 200 chart.
His fourth studio album, Crash and Burn, also snagged a place on the chart peaking at number twenty. The album featured the classic hit “Go For What You Know”. Some of Travers’ more famous songs are “Boom Boom” and “Is This Love”. The latter single featured on The Billboard Hot 100 chart at number fifty.
During the 80’s, Travers’ popularity waned as blues rock fell out of favor and rock fans began to prefer arena rock instead. Consequently, Travers’ eighties albums achieved moderate sales in the US. The latter part of the 80’s saw Travers dedicated to touring across America and Europe. He made a comeback to the blues rock scene in 1992 with his album, Blues Tracks. In 2001, Travers was part of the Voices of Classic Rock tour.
