Pat Green’s Career
Green got into music at a very young age and started playing gigs when he was just 18 years old at Texas Tech. He played small gigs at various clubs and bars all around Lubbock. In 1995, the young artist formally began recording a series of albums that were produced by Lloyd Maines. He borrowed money from his parents to get the push he needed. He committed fully to his music career after being fired by his stepfather from his job as a wholesaler. His stepfather knew that singing and music were Pat’s true passion and that he needed the right push to motivate him into working towards it.
After formally entering into the world of country music, Green managed to grasp the attention of Willie Nelson. He joined Nelson on a tour along with several other stars. His first step towards nationwide fame came when he appeared at the 1998 Willie Nelson 4th July Picnic. It wasn’t long after this that the country star was playing sold out shows in Texas and ended up selling 250,000 albums, even without being signed to any label.
His first major label album was Three Days, which combined some of his previous work and added new songs to the mix, with modern sound engineering. Released in 2001, this album was quick to receive critical acclaim. Following this album, the band released Wave on Wave in 2003, with its title track reaching number 3 on the charts towards the end of the year. The sound of this album was more experimental in nature than its predecessor and its Christian-tinged lead track ended up becoming one of Pat Green’s highest charting songs.
Towards the end of 2004, Pat Green released another masterpiece album, called Lucky Ones. This was his final piece of work with Universal/Republic label. Even though this album did not get a lot of support, it still managed to peak at number 6 on the US Country Chart. The success of this fast rising country musician rose further as he went on tours with major artists such as Keith Urban, Dave Matthews Band, Kenny Chesney and Gretchen Wilson.
In 2006, the country star released Cannonball. This album did not chart that well and was called similar to his previous work with nothing new. In 2008, the artist released his single, “Let Me”, which reached number 12 on the country music charts. This single became a part of Pat Green’s final label-released album, called What I’m For.
Following this, Pat Green stayed away from the music scene for a while, till 2011. Making his way back to the industry in 2014, Taste of Country featured the official lyric video for his new song, “Girls from Texas”, with supporting vocals from Lyle Lovett. He released another single, in May 2015. This one was called “While I Was Away”. This was eventually inducted into the Taste of Country’s Showdown Hall of Fame after winning voting rounds against big names such as Dierks Bentley, David Nail, Cassadee Pope and Blake Shelton.
On 14th August, 2015, Green released his album, Home, without any label, on digital media. This album entered the Top Country Albums chart at the 5th place and includes appearances from big names in the industry such as Sheryl Crow and Lyle Lovett.
