Winner of four consecutive Grammy awards for Best Female Rock Performance from 1980 to 1983, and nominated eight times during that decade, Pat Benatar, daughter of a gifted singer, has sung some of the most well known songs of the genres Rock and Pop. Songs such as "Love is a Battlefield" and " Shadows of the Night" have come to define ‘80's rock. Hers is the vocal style that caught on like wildfire and is still popular. Her music has achieved the ranks of classic ‘80's. She has received adulation from fans across the world and younger artists have tried to emulate her. Pat Benatar is a singer-songwriter whose musical repertoire encompasses blues, opera and new wave, in addition to hard rock, pop rock and rock. She was accepted at the prestigious Julliard School, but she decided not to pursue a classic career.

Benatar also won three American Music Awards. She won in the categories of Favorite Female Pop/Rock Vocalist in 1981, 1983 and 1985. She has enjoyed the celebrity status of what Billboard Magazine ranks "as the most successful female rock vocalist of all time" judging by record sales and number of hits on the music charts. This diminutive star has claimed and maintained her rank through the years, receiving Grammy nominations for Best Pop Vocal Performance made by a Female Artist for her hit song "We Belong" in 1985 and for the single "Sun City" sung as part of the group Artists United Against Apartheid. She was named Favorite Female Vocalist twice by Rolling Stone Magazine.

Benatar, born a New Yorker, moved to Long Island with her parents when she was three, and proved her talent for singing at a very young age, while she was still in elementary school. Growing up she learned to sing opera. She could sing Puccini and West Side Story but her true passion was rock. She recalls her early years with fondness and pride. In 2008, Pat Benatar was inducted into the Long Island Hall of Fame at the second Induction Ceremony and Fundraising Gala. Benatar had this to say on the occasion: "My upbringing, and the values and ideals I learned back in my hometown kept me grounded. I never forget that a small town girl from Lindenhurst, LI actually got the chance to live her dreams. Long Island girls ROCK!"

Pat Benatar is the first female star ever to appear on MTV and her music video "You Better Run" was the second that the network aired following the famous "Video Killed the Radio Star." The Pop and Rock scene is unimaginable without Pat Benatar. She has permanently engraved her name in the history of these genres by making classics such as "Love is a Battlefield," "Hit me with your Best Shot" and "Heartbreaker." Among the top Platinum Album recipients of the'80's and one of the top selling women artists of all-time, Pat Benatar ‘s pioneering music still has fans magnetized towards her and her celebrity is richly deserved.
