The venue was founded in 1975 and was originally known as The Museum of Broadcasting and The Museum of Television & Radio (MT&R). The facility was established for the purpose of preserving and promoting the American culture of television and radio, along with other platforms serving media-interested community. The concept and purpose of the facility widened over the years and its name was changed to The Paley Center for Media in 2007 so as to encompass all kinds of media including internet, podcasting and mobile video. The venue also serves as a platform for media professionals to engage in debates and discussions about the history and evolution of media landscape.
Because of an already huge and an ever-growing collection of radio and television broadcast, The Paley Center for Media is located at two places in the U.S; one in New York City and the other one in Beverly Hills.
