Held in Arizona, Devore and Phoenix in October 1996, the first tour was a two day event and not a national tour.

Ozzfest's first venture outside the United States was in 1998 and it featured totally different musicians from what it had been doing in the past two years. 2000 saw the big names like Linkin Park, Rob Zombie, Marylin Manson, Incubus, Disturbed, Slipknot and System of the Down being attached to Ozzfest. Since the early 2000 these heavy weights of rock music have been featuring in the festival every year. Ozzfest also came out with the release of its two compilation albums in 2001 and 2002.

These albums featured the performance that took place in the festival of both years. In the year 2005 Iron Maiden another major rock band also became a part of Ozzfest. Calling the festival a Free Fest in 2007 it was announced that Ozzfest Tickets will be for free. The tact was not just to promote the festival as a whole but also to promote the new release of Ozzy Osbourne's, Black Rain because the free ticket was available both online and on buying a copy of Ozzy's Black Rain.

The success that Osbourne drew following that year's festival did indeed prove that his tact did him good and not in one way but many. Along with promoting Black Rain Ozzy successfully attracted various sponsorships for the years to come. Looking at the 2007 festival's success many became willing to sponsor Ozzfest in future. After the overwhelming success in 2007 people started asking questions if the year 2008 will see Ozzfest. It became a concern because the same year Osbourne announced that he would head to the Canadian rock festival named, the Canadian Monsters of Rock Festival. Owing to which the 2008 Ozzfest was based on only a one day performance in Texas at the Pizza Hut of Frisco.

The one time only occurrence, the Canadian version of the festival took place later in July 2008, featuring major league rock artists including Shadows Fall, Zimmers Hole, 3 inches of blood, Voivod, Dillinger Escape Plan, Serj Tenkian, Cavalera Conspiracy, Hatebreed and Testament. Like all the previous years, this year too Ozzy's brian child, the Ozzfest is taking place in the mid of August.

With it's first day at San Manuel Amphitheater in San Bernardino on 14th August, the festival will head to Chicago to perform at the First MidWest Bank Amp on the 17th of August, then to Pittsburgh on the 19th to perform at the First Niagra Pavillion, then to Hartford for its 21st August performance at Comcast Theater, then on the 22nd to Camden for a performance at the Susquehanna and later to Mansfield's Comcast Centre for a performance on the 24th.

The festival will carry on in UK in September for a performance on the 18th of the month at the London's O2 Arena and will make its closure by a performance in Israel, Tel Aviv's Hayarkon Park.Hence all this excitement is just around the corner, you fasten your seat belts and get ready for some serious head banging.
