The band consists of Critter Fuqua, Kevin Hayes, Morgan Jahnig, Ketch Secor and Willie Watson. Most of the members are proficient in playing more than one instrument. This was the beginning point for the professional career of the band. The group shifted to Nashville shortly afterwards, where they entertained crowds at Grand Ole Opry, between the shows. During this time the band also toured with Marty Stuart and Merle Haggard, appeared on NPR’s Prairie Home Competition, and also opened for Dolly Parton and the Del McCoury Band.
In 2003, Old Crow Medicine Show signed to Network America, and started writing compositions themselves. Their self-titled debut album, "O.C.M.S" arrived the following year. It was recorded in RCA’s legendary studio B and also in Woodland’s Sound Studios. The album contained a mixture of traditional tunes as well as some original compositions written by the band itself. It also had the acoustic quintet’s signature tune Wagon Wheel, which is based on Secor’s life and is co-authored by Bob Dylan. It also includes a fragment of one of Dylan’s songs for the chorus. This first of the four studio albums released by the band topped the U.S Billboard Top Bluegrass Albums chart and also made it to the list of U.S. Billboard Top Country Albums. The other three albums by Old Crow Medicine Show are "Big Iron World" (2006), "Tennessee Pusher" (2008) and "Carry Me Back" (2012).
